MCI Worldcom is a rip-off. I bought a phone around April of 2001 and was receiving normal billing charges for about 4 months. Every month was about $30.00 plus taxes and I paid my balance in full every month. Around August of 2001 the 5th billing cycle, I received a thick envelope from them, with a bill from the day that I started service with them, til the current billing cycle, and of course with only about 200 anytime minutes, my bill was over $1,500.00. How ridiculous.

Anyone could see, just by looking at my bill, that they had made a mistake, so I called to get it fixed the very day that I got in the mail. After holding for about 1 hour, I spoke to a customer service rep that said, "No problem, we've had a recent billing problem, and we'll get that fixed for you right away, just pay the regular amount that you usually pay." This was just the beginning.....

Of course, I believed that rep and I waited for the next billing cycle, but no credit had been posted, the amount was still over $1,500.00 and climbing with late payment fees. I called back, and another rep had assured me that they probably didn't show it yet, so I waited another billing.

That billing cycle came and went, and no credit. I finally called back and then, the rep said that they had no idea what I was talking about and that they'd have to see about getting a credit for me, but that the credit amount was so large, that they'd have to get it approved by a higher manager. I told her to just look at the fact that my bill went from a 0 balance to over $1,500 and she said that the reps could only see a history of 3 months on their computers, so she didn't know what I was talking about.

A few months later, after a whole bunch of calls, they finally said that they would be putting a credit through, and the reps said that they "see it" whatever that means, but that it hadn't posted yet because it was still waiting approval, or that someone had to go research it now, since the history on their computers only went back so far.

Anyways, I cancelled my account the day it was up, April 2002, and to this day, am still getting monthly bills for the original $1,500 plus every month, a late fee, and so on, now my bill is over $2,000.00 and I have been sent to collections. I refuse to pay anything until they get their billing situation handled.

I explained to the collection agency what was going on, but they don't care, I told them that I am awaiting a credit, and that I should not have been reported, and do you know what they said?? They told me, "Well, we can settle this debit if you pay us at least half of the total amount due!" I told them that they were crazy! I don't owe the total amount due, and I don't owe half of the amount due. I will not pay them, they are so ridiculous.

What are we to do??
