Well understandably that would be poor service and a crappy situation. But a Monopoly? Let's define for a moment. Monopoly - Exclusive control by one group of the means of producing or selling a commodity or service. Unfortunately your switch to Vonage debunks this claim. And also the prevalence of dish services debunk the rest. I understand companies can overprice services and generally produce bad service. What I have a problem with is misguided frustration. It is in no way a monopoly when there are competitors EVERYWHERE. You can choose Vonage, or your local telephone company. If you don't already owe a bill with them and can't get their services. That would be a "self-induced monopoly" I suppose. And as far as video services are concerned you could peruse any of the dish services available, they are competitors as well. So no; no monopoly.
