Case Description: I have been trying to find a medical insurance that would cover weight loss surgury (stomach bypass) this company called me and asked me if I was still looking for medical insurance. I of course said yes I am. The rep asked, "is there a specific reason for why you want to purchase medical insurance?" I said, "Yes im looking for an insurance company that i can purchase that covers weight loss surgury." The rep then asked me if I could hold, I said yes. I waited about a min. when he got back on the phone and said yes we cover weight loss surgury.

At this time I was so elated and happy I found an insurance company that would cover weight loss surgury. He then asked all the personal questions any insurance provider would ask, for example: height, weight, any medical conditions etc. After all was said and done i gave Medical Savings Association a check over the phone for $249.95. By doing this I would be covered immedialetly for my up and coming surgury, and also pay $99.95 monthly every month after. The rep, I believe his name to be B.J., told me my check wouldn't clear for 14 days. After a few days go by, i try and call one of theire customer service phone #'s to no avail. The check had cleared in 2 days.

When I finally got a hold of a rep, i asked if i was covered now that the check was approved, he than told me that this buisness was not an insurance company, that they were called a patient advocacy. I told him i wanted a refund immedialetly he said no, we dont give refunds, i then told him i would find a lawyer and file a complaint he then gave me a number to call for a refund (1-877-752-7871)her name is brittany, i called brittany told me a refund was in the works, that she gave all my info to a lady named Betsy who she now cant get a hold of and cannot give the phone number out to find out when she supposedly sent my refund.

I have called several times to find out when my refund was sent and Brittany has no clue and keeps saying that Betsy is not around or is not answering her phone. Britany has promised to call me and let me know when the refund was sent and has not. These people are misleading and something needs to be done.

Marla: Unfortunately, you purchased our discount medical plan through a reseller located in Logan, Utah. All of the names you mentioned as well as your client file indicate this. The company (Medical Savings of Utah) is independent from us and our operations. Nevertheless, due to other instances (similar in some ways to yours) we have since severed our relationship with the reseller and no longer permit them resell our product. Please contact us directly at 800.530.3699 and we can evaluate your report. If, in fact, a representative (reseller or not) did present our product as insurance, he or she misrepresented our plan and you may be owed a refund. We require all sales representatives to disclose mulitple times that this is not insurance, and that it is a discount plan. We feel that if the plan is presented correctly, it will have a value for many people and we look forward to serving them. Obviously your situation does not fall into this category and I regret the inconvenience and frustration this has caused you. Please contact us. President
