Michael Banks, former Marine. A real manly man. Upstanding member of the Mormon Church. (He lies to the church leaders about his situation and abuse.) Father of nine known children. A take-charge kind and that's just what he did. After years of abuse his wife had to leave, for the safety of the children. It's kind of a profile in military abuse cases.

The most onerous part of this story is that one of his children had cancer several years ago, but miraculous survived. That was the good news, the bad news was that in the process of receiving all those transfusions this baby boy contracted HIV. This young mother received no assistance from her ex-husband control freak in obtaining military benefits.

That would be bad enough but his younger son had a ruptured appendix and almost died. Did he share in the exorbitant costs for his son that almost dies? No, in fact, after 20 surgeries this young man is still miraculously recovering after over 18 months. What does this moral man do...continues to play games with child support. And at a time when it is most needed.

He was ordered to pay $1,350.16 for his children in Prince William County Circuit Court, Virginia. By July 1995 he decided he would reduce the amount of his payment to $1,181.39. The possible reason for the deduction, and this is only surmise, is that a previous order in the State of Oregon had set payment for $168.77 per child. However, in Virginia, unless the non-custodial parent files for a reduction, it is not automatic.

His next unilateral deduction was in November, 1996 to the amount of, you guess it, $1,012.62. Then in May 1998 he reduced it again to $843.85. I guess Mike has a bit of a conscience and took pity on his son and ex-wife and decided he'd throw them a bit more for child support from August 2000 and began paying $1,250.00 each month until August of this year when he informed his wife that he would reduce it again to $1,000.00 Oh, and that's not all, he will begin paying only $750 a month starting in September, 2001.

The debt figure of $698,375.86 was arrived by amortizing interest at the judgement rate (9% per annum) on the unpaid child support balance. Oh, and that's not all. Since Mike won't pay but only $750 a month starting September, 2001, his next balance will be $751,399.22. By the end of this year he will be less than $65,000 short of owing $1 million dollars in child support.

This man has no court order allowing him to play god with child support; just his self-righteousness. Meanwhile, a young mother doesn't know if she can continue to keep a roof over her children's head. Can't anyone do anything?

At the time we were living in New Orleans,LA. They lived in military housing.I had a close association to both Mike and Gayle. I remember the last evening we met at their home. It was a very nice evening and they were their usual friendly selves. After the evening was over we said our last good byes and left as Mike was being transferred and this would be our last evening with them. Before we drove away from the base I remembered leaving something and drove back to their house to pick it up. I met Mike at the door and he acted a little startled as if all was not well with them. The mood had changed and it was quite clear to me. I have since thought about that. The article did not state that Gayle remarried. Yes Mike's responsibility to his children stands but the picture painted of Gayle in this article is the truth but not the whole truth. My personal conversations with Gayle suggested to me that she was fully capable of leaving Mike but did not refer to anything that suggested there was abuse in the home. I only heard of this abuse thing from Gayle after they separated. My first impression after hearing Gayle talk about this abuse was that Gayle was not telling the whole truth. She was looking for a ally and she was not getting it from me. Mike was her second husband. I believe he adopted the children from the first marriage. Gayle always wanted to do more than most are capable of.She was off working nights as a paramedic away from the kids. It would not surprise me if Gayle divorced her third husband or maybe even the other way around. I loved Gayle as a friend but I would not want to ever be married to her.She has high expectations. As far as I could see, Mike did not fit into those expectations. He was a good man.I truly believe that. Not in his defense but as a matter of fact. I dont know where Mike is. I've never heard from him. My wife and I named our daughter after their daughter Brooke. Please e mail if you care to comment.

i feel sorry for the father, the mother, and mostly the children. first off it isnt just one person's decision to have nine children. maybe if the mother would have kept her legs shut she wouldnt be in the situation that she is in now. same goes for the father. what is wrong with people today? having kids that they can not support. i think there should be a law against people popping out more kids then they can handle. get a job and get out of the bedroom!

This Rip Off Reporter located Michael Banks, 528-64-2969. He is an accountant for the State of Utah and his phone number at work is (801) 538-6611. He lives at 528 N. 200 E., Spanish Fork, UT 85660-1510. Home phone number is (801) 794-1064. Michael Banks was informed that he could not play god with how much he pays his ex-wife. He must have checked with an attorney because he did not send only $750 but paid $1,300. He is begging clemency because he can't afford to pay almost a million dollars in back alimony, but did he think of a struggling young mother for over six years getting by on whatever he decided to throw her. Michael was a Marine until 1 year ago and the U.S. Marine Corps would not help his ex-wife get the amount required. Their JAG attorney also screwed Michael Banks' wife out of her authorized portion of his retirement. QUESTION: How can he have a State job with Utah and not pay the court-ordered amount? We will not give up until Michael's ex-wife gets the back child support, plus amortized interest, and her authorized portion of the pension.
