I was driving to work, and the brakes failed. I was new to Knoxville, TN, and saw there was a Midas across the street from where I worked.

I brought the 96 Dodge Ram in for service and left it. Later I was informed that BOTH rear brakes cyllnders had blown out and, spontaneously, both front brake hoses were torn. Meanwhile, BOTH rear drums (which only had about 10,000 miles on them) were out of round AND worn too thin.

Cost of repair: $880. Of course, the alternative is to drive my vehicle with no brakes from garage to garage, so I decided to swallow the rip off and at least have working brakes.

When I pick up the vehicle, the emergency light is on. I point this out to the mechanic, who pops open the hood and starts BEATING THE MASTER CYLLINDER WITH A HAMMER, claiming that this would turn it off. When that didn't work, he said, "Well, I can't fix it," and walked away.

I had checked the box which said, "Return all parts." The place refused. HE showed me one drum, claimed he couldn't be sure it was mine, and then showed me that there was brake fluid on it.

The next day, driving the vehicle, I notice a cloud of steam behind me. I pull the vehicle over and, on top of everything else, they left the radiator cap off of the radiator. I called the shop and was informed that, if I could get back there, they would be glad to provide me with a radiator cap. They don't do roadside assistance.

I read about 1/3 of your reply, but it became a strain without spacing and capitalization. Why would you even write that way? These are basic writing rules from about fourth grade to help get your ideas across to the reader. They are to HELP YOU. I have found in my life very often when people disregard simple techniques and are content to simply "slide by" in their basic writing, often they will "slide by" in things more complicated such as their work. Not always, but often. Your letter alone boosts Bob's complaint.

first thing.the truck is 12yrs old and has over 280,000 miles on it. bobs first statement is that he was driving to work and the brakes had (failed).meaning that the brakes are not operating correctly .so he brings his truck to our shop to have a brake inspection performed.part of our inspection process is to inform the customer of any current or future problems that are visable at this time.the technicians found that after test driving the vehicle and experiencing a low brake pedal and poor brake performance that the rear wheel cylinders were leaking brake fluid. and that the rear brake shoes had fallen below the manufactures minumum specifications.the rear drums had also gone beyond manufactures limits.and that the front brake hoses were dryrotted.the front brake hoses are a rubber hose and just like tires or any other rubber product overtime dryrott will occure.these hoses were reccomended as a preventative maintinence so the customer could avoid the possibility of a hydrolic fluid loss while driving.the manufacture places certain minumum thicknesses and overall diameters on the brake system in order to keep the brake system working correctly and safely.you should not put new parts on with broken/worn/or out of spec components on any part of a vehicle.especialy safty related systems.bob was informed of all mesurments and the condition of the brake system and agreed to all the repairs.he then informs the managment to save all old parts for his inspection.we did. all old parts were and are still saved at that location for him to inspect.bob states that the drums only had 10k miles on it.we were more than willing to assist bob in returning these items to help get him a refund.i know if i had just bought drums or any parts less than 10k miles ago i would try and get them returned for a refund especialy if someone was willing to help me do it.but when bob came to pickup and pay for his repairs he left all parts there.never once did bob at anytime express any concerns of feeling like he was being ripped off.when bob was called with the results and the cost of repairs he could of called other repair shops for estimates you do not have to drive around from garage to garage but he didnt. he gave us full authorization to go ahead and do the reccomended repairs to his truck.we have done nothing wrong and have done nothing more than trying to assist him with this matter.so i dont understand what the ripoff was??.was it the price?/the customer service?/i dont know.bob is not very clear as to how he feels that he was ripped off. but i know it definently cannot be the repairs because he has made no complaints here or anywhere else saying he was still having brake problems.so the work that was performed on his brake system obivously fixed his brake complaints.as for the radiator cap i cant say if we left it off or not i would say no because he drove it home and then started to drive it around the next day and that is when he experienced a white smoke trailing the vehicle.even though the radiator cap is located in the front of the truck. i would think if we had left it off it would he would of had those complaints on his way home that evening not the following day while he was driving around..and as for the "beating on the master cylinder with the hammer" the resivoir in the master cylinder has a level sensor in it and from time to time they do tend to get stuck and will turn a brake light on.most cases a little tap with a small rubber mallet will unstick this sensor and shut the light off.bob has been contacted several times to rectify this matter and be reinbursed for any inconviences he feels we may have caused.but bob will not come in to this shop or to any of our other locations to settle this matter.this company has been apart of this community for 15yrs and always reaches out to our customers and our comunity.we do not! tolerate any abuse or neglect of our customers or services our customer request or purchase.we stand behind everything we do and if we are wrong we will make it right. anyone is welcome to contact us on this or any other issue... thank you....
