Original Case # 84957(Midas International).

I have been a Midas customer for over 10 years, but that is about to end.

I took the vehicle into Midas for an oil change and a Fuel Filter replacement. I supplied the oil and filters. This was on February 25, 2009. Invoice #1406570. Payment amount was $64.48. After the installation of materials I noticed that the vehicle was starting "harder" than seemed usual and I took it to our dealer to be checked-out. I thought there might be an electrical issue.

Our dealer informed me that the "O" ring on the fuel filter had never been installed and was causing air to be introduced to the fuel system causing the "harder" starting. To correct the problem, the dealer had to install another fuel filter and do a pressure check of the fuel system. This resulted in my spending an additional $260.59 because Midas did not install the fuel filter correctly. This was on February 27, 2009. The invoice number is 678841. The work was done by my dealer, O'Rielly Chevrolet at 6160 East Broadway, Tucson, AZ 85711. Phone-520-747-8000.

I brought this to the attention of the Midas Center Manager, faxed him a copy of the dealer's paid invoice and have heard nothing back. It has been over 21 days now. Fax was sent 03-06-2009. I feel Midas needs to reimburse me for the expense of having the dealer correct the improper installation. Not to mention the additional time and cost of getting to the dealer. Midas charged me $44.99 plus tax for the work and the filter cost was $38.99 plus tax.

Midas made an offer to settle on April3, 2009. Their offer was $130.00.

A viable offer would be $260.59 plus the Midas charged labor for the originally installed fuel filter of $44.99 plus a mileage allotment for the additional 70 miles round trip that I had to drive to have the truck repaired after Midas messed-up the original installation. That would be an additional $30,00. The total of a viable offer would be $335.58 not $130.00.

I would be willing to settle for the cost of the repairs to Midas's mistake which is $260.59. If Midas had forgotten to put oil in the truck and the engine had seized up, would they be offering the cost of the oil or the cost of a newly installed engine?

I don't see how I can accept anything less than the $260.59 it cost to repair Midas's error.

Well i went to pick up the car and they claimed to have fixed it paid then when i went to start the car the breaks fell to the floor!!!!! i went inside and complained to Sergio and said the breaks are worse then when i had brought it in. Asked if they could look at it and make it safe and they wanted to charge me 700 for the master cylinder!!!!!! I tried to get a partial refund since the car was worse and said i'll pay for the parts just refund the rest and i'll be on my way and NO!!! called the manager no answer had to have a tow take it home. When the driver of the tow truck looked at it he master cylinder since he has a similar car too put a wrench and fixed the problem presto!!!!!! What a bunch of losers at Midas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Well i  filed fraud charges for non services at the bank. I'm out 900 in cash but i'm going to have sears fix it and look at what they did and if they didn't fix my cylinder seals like promised i'm going to file charges. The main manager called me 3 hrs later and was the rudest person and said he has lawyers and to do what i have to do. Do not do go  there what so ever and never trust them with any repairs i repeat do not do go THERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What a bunch of ripoff artist they are. I contacted KGUN 9 today and pima county consumer affairs please pass along and boycott this place

How big was the fuel spill?

You claim the o-ring was missing. If that was true, there would be pressurized fuel spraying everywhere at a very good clip. The fuel spill would have posed a fire hazard, and the odds of any fuel reaching the engine are nil. The dealership may have done something, but it had nothing to do with an o-ring at the filter.
