Recently I fell behind in making payments on my Canadian Tire Master Card. I was actually making payments but not quite enough, so I was still owing over one hundred dollars at the time.

About two weeks ago I called Canadian Tire with the intention of making a payment to bring my account up to par, and was quite surprised when I was told by a representative that, "your account was sent to Collections this morning". I was then given the name and number of the collection agency and told to speak to them. The name of the agency happened to be MJR.

I immediately called MJR (approximately 10:30am), and spoke to a female representative who was very rude to me from the get-go. She checked my file and told me that I needed to pay the amount (about $3,000) in full or "immediate action" would be taken against me. I told her that I couldn't afford to pay it in full but could pay monthly, and she became livid.

She proceeded to tell me that my file showed that I owned two (2) other credit cards, one with CIBC and one with TD, and that I had a total of about $8,000 combined on both cards. I told her I didn't, and she pretty much told me that I was a liar.

She told me I had until 3:00pm of the same day to make full payment or further actions would be taken against me. She even called me back at approximately 2:00pm (same day) to find out if I had made the payment. She was very rude in the way she spoke to me.

I was called atleast five (5) times that day. Each time I was repeatedly threatened. The following day was the same story, I was again given a 3:00pm deadline to make full payment on the account. Frustrated and angry, I called Canadian Tire directly and made a complaint to them.

I told them that I would rather pay them that deal with MJR, and they (Canadian Tire) told me that I could continue making payments at any Canadian Tire store.

When a female representative of MJR called me back I told her that I had spoken to Canadian Tire and was told that I could make payments at any Canadian store. I was told by the representative, "it's not gonna work that way". I then told her that I was getting very tired of the harassing phone calls and would call the police, and she hung up on me. After that I didn't hear from MJR again for awhile.

About one week later they called me yet again. I told them that because of them harassing me and failing to negotiate with me that I would be dealing with Canadian Tire directly. The rep became irate, she tole me, "pay your bill", then hung up the phone on me.

I have since made a payment of $500,00 directly at a Canadian Tire location but the harassment still hasn't stopped. Just this morning they called me and told me to get myself a lawyer as they were going to put a lien on my property. I told them to go ahead and they hung up on me once again.

All of this has caused me alot of distress and embarassment. I mean I was the one who made the first phone call to them because I wanted pay my bill, but they have been totally unreasonable in their demands to have me make full payment all at once.

My next move will be to file a complaint against MJR as this is really getting to me. I would love for MJR to stop calling and harassing me as I have had enough.
