Monterey Collections Monterey Financial Services Collections under false pretenses Ocenside California
Consumers beware! This "financial" business operates just within the law. My experience was with their collections side. They sent me a notice for lab work that was conducted two years prior. I thought it was taken care of by my Doctor, but that is a whole other issue.
I was no longer with the insurance company either. Monterey was billing me for almost four thousand dollars. As expected, I freaked out a bit and thought I would be responsible. But here is my warning - don't send them a check because of scare tactics. Immediately send a Cease & Desist notice. Then report them to the Attorney General in California. Not surprisingly, they are well prepared for this and have letters to cover themselves.
Then do some research - chances are you do NOT owe this money at all, as I did not. The lab filed for bankruptcy the previous year and Monterey claimed that their bankruptcy trustee was told by my insurance company that I was sent a check to cover this bill. I was not.
In response to my letter to the A.G., Monterey sent one of their own to them stating I merely had to provide a copy of the Explanation of Benefits stating that I did not receive the check. Luckily, my insurance company had this two year old information from a closed account. Oddly enough, Monterey did not mention this option in their first two letters to me. Additionally, the insurance company told me they would never release such information to anyone other than the policy holder.
Just wanted to put a warning out there so no one else funds this fraudulent company.
