Mt Royal Management / garrison Forest Apt bait-and-switch practices

 

Garrison Forest Apt own by Mt Royal Management Company had advertised that you can get an apt with free Gas and Heat. When I sign a lease for one year I was to pay 840.00 for a 2 bed room apt with gas and heat cover by mangt and Im responsible for electric. Later in July/ august of 2009, Mt Royal Management Company sent a letter that BGE will be installing new thermostat in all apt. and provided an option to enroll into the BGE peak reward program. We would have to call to be enrolled. I and others did not call because we didn't think we needed it. Garrison forest apt management unknowingly enrolled me and others into the program and set a restriction on the thermostat as to how high the temperature can be increase. They program the thermostat not to exceed 72 degrees. At 72 Degrees, the heater is blowing out loop warm air or is not coming on at all. Living in the apartment is becoming very uncomfortable. I and others contacted the management but refused to take any actions. We are being taken advantage of and are willing to grant an interview to whoever wants to hear us. Contacted Maintenance and was also advised to call the office. I call the office and spoke with Brenda (office manager) she confirmed that Garrison Forest did set restrictions on the thermostat and the reasons were to save the company some money. Asked why we were not notifying of a change to the agreement. She said I could either come in and sign a new agreement for an all electric apt and be responsible for my gas and heat or I could get a heater from home depot. I though the respond was very much unprofessional and is taken steps to make sure I or anyone else not taken advantage of. Spoke with John Pollard at Mt. Royal mangt office about situation and got the same respond.
