I've read the rebuttal from MXEnergy's Compliance Department. Assuming that MXEnergy has legitimate reasons for having its representatives go door-to-door to bother people, it still strikes me and my wife as fishy that a representative would ask to see our PPL Electric statement. Such information could easily be used against us by identity thieves, so we automatically distrust anybody who asks to see it, as well as their employers.
You may wish to caution your door-to-door representatives against asking to see potential customers' power bills.
