I received my local phone bill yesterday (Friday) and looked it over as usual. I noticed right away that it was about $10 more than normal, so I tried to find the difference.

On the last page I found a $9.95 charge + $.70 tax for "My Tele Bill". Along with this information was a number to call for 'billing inquiries'. Since I had never heard of My Tele Bill and didn't appreciate the extra $10 charge, I callled immediately.

When questioned, the lady that answered explained that I had signed up for this service online on June 5. She also stated that I had done so in response to the promise of $1000 in coupons.

I am certain I did not 'buy' $1000 in coupons for a $10 per month extra charge on my phone bill. And even if I had, the coupons have never made it to my home.

After some discussion, she stated that she would cancel the charges from that point on, but I would still be expected to pay for the services that I had received. Whereupon I expained that if I had truely received any type of service, I would pay the charge. But as far as I could see, I had received nothing for my $10.

She brought up the $1000 in coupons again and I explained that I had not received them by mail or email. At this point I indicated that if she could not remove this current charge that I needed to speak with someone who could.

After a few moments of silence, she agreed to send a credit for the $10 to my local phone company and asked if there was anything else she could do. I will say that she was courteous and did not get irate with me. Lucky girl.
