Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?

NASE or the National Association of the Self Employed professes to offer discount rates on Health Insurance.  Our "agent" successfully enrolled us in the MEGA Life health insurance program and as a requirement my wife and I had to be members to get the discount rate.  As NASE's agent put it, the independent self-employed people in the US are a large group, a chosen group that MEGA-Life has identified as pre-approved.  I understood there was the requirement to join NASE.  So we did.  What wasn't clear was the amount of dues.  Somehow and I'm still sorting through this, we got both hit for two different memberships totally $480 and $120 a year.  I saw the NASE membership on my bank statements and was assured these totals went to cover the supposed discount rate through MEGA-Life.  Speaking directly to MEGA-Life, the rep told me that they are totally independent of NASE and NASE doesn't sell insurance but rather uses life insurance as a way to enroll people in their plan, for their means, mainly the dues. (not completely the reps words)

I stupidly trusted NASE for several years paying exorbitant membership dues.  I did receive the sophomoric Self-Employed Magazine monthy, (Like Heloises hints on winging it on your own).  I went to NASE's website and looked at the list of "Member Benefits"  These are the type of things you can get by mentioning AAA or AARP, 10% discounts on hotels, and the like, nothing better than what you might be offered on the back of a grocery store receipt.  RUB:  Having someone come by my house and give me information on health insurance and rope me in for $600.00 a year in a useless membership under the guise of getting cheaper insurance is a crude, crass, manipulation of people who need health care.  NASE all dressed up as a service organization that is false, fake, and a ripoff in the strongest sense.

This NASE thing is a cruel trick and yet another thing wrong with this nations enigma of a health care system.
