National City charges you NSF fees every chance they get. I had a dispute regarding an unauthorized check being used on my account, and since I had other items pending on my account, they paid the fraudulent check and charged me over 12 NSF fees on my smaller items pending. Even though I won the dispute with the fraudulent check, they still would not refund me all of the NSF fees. But not only do they charge you $34 for NSF, but they also charge a $6.00 fee for continuous NSF fees.

Another reason National City sucks, you never know how much it will charge you when you use other ATM's. So you might use another banks ATM and withdraw money out of your account, and have only a few dollars left in your account, then National City will charge you sometimes up to $3.50 for using another ATM. If you don't have that money in your account, you get charged a $34 NSF fee on top of that!

I have a free checking account with National City because I have direct deposit through my job. I tried to open a savings account so that I can link it to my checking in case I overdraw, but they said that I would have to pay a monthly fee for that! That is ridiculous.

To date, I have been charged over 20 NSF fees. Recently there was an error on my account, due to a bank error, and they bank representative said that they would not refund me my NSF fees because I had so many. I don't see why that would be a reason for not being refunded for bank errors, and it's not like they have refunded me any of the past fees.

First and foremost, with anything else in life, read your account agreement pamphlet that you should have received upon opening your NatCity account so that you fully understand the rules/regulations, charges, etc. The $34 dollars that you were charged for the fraudulent activity should have been reversed, as well as the subsequent NSF charges if the disputed charge was found to not be your error. As far as something that was legitimately a bank error, that should have been refunded regardless of how many NSF charges you had in the past. As for the $6 charge, that starts 6 (six) business days after being continuously over drafted and lasts 15 business days. At which point the charges stop and you are given up to 45 days until your account will be charged off and reported to Check Systems. Also find out what date your statement is due to cycle, this is the date that NatCity will access any "foreign ATM" charges. This is where you will see the $3.50 which is more than one foreign ATM charge during the month. If you know when your cycle date is then you will know that on that date NatCity will charge you 1.50 for all the foreign ATM transactions you have made during that statement cycle. Bottom line: Never give your banking account information to anyone, especially online. There is way too much fraudulent activity and anyone can get into your account if you have provided them with enough information.
