I work in the moving industry, for a United Van Lines agent in Wisconsin. I have done alot of research on brokers, rouge movers etc. Lets face it, the REAL moving companies out there have to compete against these sub-par so called movers. I myself went online and entered a request for a move (knowing I was not moving). I recieved responces from Nationwide Relocation, along with 2 others. I enter the request on 10/10/07, from work. I am still recieving phone calls and emails from the people at Nationwide, and today is 11/7/07.

I made it clear from the first call I recieved from them, I worked for United van lines, and was not intending on moving, I was just doing some homework for myself as far as the internet goes. I have recieved 37 phone calls and 19 emails to date. I personally an not bothered by it, because I know full well the type of people I am dealing with. But a consumer that has never moved before, and has a budget to work with will go the the internet and get wrapped up in something they just don't fully understand. With the constent calls and emails, one could feel almost backed into a corner at somepoint, and not know where to turn.

I am writing this report to inform the public of a few key points about interstate moving. A deregulated state can charge ANY price they want as long as they do not cross the state line, the is NO federal guidelines at all. All National moving companies (United Van Lines, Mayflower, Allied, Atlas, North American, Graebil, Bekins, to name a few) Are regulated by the federal government. As of March 1, 2007 the Consumer protection act was put in place by the Federal government. All interstate carriers are required to abide by and follow the laws but in place to protect the consumer from such moves on this site.

Rather than go into lots of legal jargan, there is a few VERY specific things to remember when hiring a mover: NEVER give a downpayment, NEVER accept an estimate price on cubic feet, it is illegal, and NEVER EVER set up a move with out having a sales rep acctually look at your goods. If a company will not send someone out to look at what needs to be moved then YOU are asking for trouble. ANd always check with the BBB, before booking a mover. I hope that I have informed at least one person with this listing and consumers will in the future look into the mover they may or may not hire.
