Steven DeSena was hired by a "friend" of an elderly couple who both suffered severe dementia, to sell their home. The home sets on 6 acres and has breathtaking views of the valley and forests. DeSena did not have the house staged and cleaned for photographs and the photographs highlighted the household clutter instead of the architectural style and views. After months on the market he sent a house cleaner who billed an exorbitant fee for cleaning and staging.
During this "cleaning" $4000.00 was found and was never accounted for. At least one painting valued at $18,000.00 vanished from the wall, countless antiques and a rare coin collection disappeared. The "friend" known as "Cecil" oversaw the cleaners. The home was left filthy and cluttered and naturally there was no attempt to redo the photographs because no improvements were made. After 9 months on the market, and reducing the price repeatedly the home did not sell. When family stepped in to make heads or tails of this situation we were initially told that it was all because the elderly wife was difficult to deal with.
Eventually, his contract ran out and was not re-hired. Some of the story has become crystal clear and one of the fine artworks has been recoved after working with state, local and international organizations. I would like to warn others, especially collectors, in the Grass Valley area to be cautious of these heinous charlatans and keep them at a rifles distance.
