Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
We have faithfully used Network Solutions as our web hosting company for many years to host several websites.

Today, we lost a valuable new customer because our website was down and we can't tell them when it will be back up.  The customer wanted to make sure we were legit yet our site was nowhere to be found!

When we looked into the situation because we were unaware of a problem, we found that not only was our site down, but Network Solutions had LOST our website all together!!!  If that wasn't bad enough, we also noticed that they had lost ALL but two of the websites that we had through them!

When we called Network Solutions, we found out that they could not recover ANY of the websites that THEY lost!  This is a huge problem for us!

We are the busiest that we have ever been in our company, and now we have to either hire someone to re-write our sites, or, we have to decline any additional work and write them ourselves.  Either way, a very large capital outlay for work that was already completed!

Please do NOT let this happen to you!  We strongly advise staying away from this company as a web hoster, domain registrar.  We have been GOLD VIP customers and this is how we were treated.

Reason for the lost data?

Catastrophic losses of data suck for sure and I'm sorry to hear about yours.  Did NS give you any reason for the loss of data?  Hardware failure, accident, etc?  Most good hosting companies should also have a service level agreement (SLA) for instances like this to reimburse you for lost time.  The hosting company I work for does and we are much smaller than NS.

Yes shopping cart sites are a lot more in depth than your standard HTML site but if you have a backup of the files and the database from a relatively close amount of time to each other it should be rather quick to get back up.  Upload the files, create a new database with NS, restore the back up, then insure the connection string is correct to connect to the new database.

But this shows that no company is immune to hiccups like this.  They have happened to the company I'm at and to the big guys like NS.  And like I said before, yes they suck for all parties involved.  The best thing you can do is always make your own back ups at least once a week.  And NS should treat you good for this.  Like I said a refund of money for time lost on the service is the least they could do.

Importance of time

While I understand you having a site that is easily loaded and setup, and your IT company would charge you nothing to upload your site, and has nothing else to do but reload and setup your site in 10 minutes, the damage to mine was multiple sites with databases and specialty code. Setting up online stores isn't as easy as u r trying to make it sound. As far as backup we did go into the archives and pull copies. However  we are new to offsite back up and our current backup system is being relocated for easier accessability. All my sites are back up. 4 are hosted with our new group and 4 are hosted with network solutions. I have backups redily accessable for reloading while my hosting packages sunset. Network solutions cared less about my problems and I actually found the problem to be in their software. When pointed out to their programmers what I got was "o crap" and "we need to kick this to engineering" It seems like they could have done something to make it right, but not a chance. O and FYI just because I am capable of writing my own code doesn't mean my time is worth nothing. I m running 70 hour weeks at this time. Everything can be repaired when enough time is spent to do it. Seems like such a waste!

Why no backup? Our company could reload our web site in ten minutes from the backup. Maybe the company that created the site still has the data.
