Ripoff Report:

Unautorized Service charge on Verizon Phone Monthly Bill - Fraud Agora Voice Messaging Service

Category: Telephone Answering Services

November 13, 2010 - We found a monthly fee of $8.23 + PA State Tax $0.50 for Total $8.73 / Montly charge on our Verizon bill for a voice messaging service from Agora Solutions.  We use our home telephone for local & longdistanse calls and have an answering machine to pick up messages from doctors and pharmacy.  We have no use for an answering service and we have never signed up for
this service nor have we ever heard of this telecom company.

Our monthly bills are set up to be paid over the internet automatically every month thus causing us to become very lax in looking over our bills.  So while perusing our phone bill today 11/13/2010, for the first time in many months, we are shocked to find several unauthorized fees.  We have no idea how long these fees have been on our bill.

Agora Solutions does not have a person answering their calls on weekends.

Re-consider the auto bill-paying option...

#2Consumer Comment

Sun, November 14, 2010

Automatic bill-paying seems to often be an easy method to pay one's bills.  Unfortunately, it can also lead to complacency when it comes to closely scrutinizing a person's bills (as you have indicated in your post).  Many financial experts I've heard advise against using auto bill-paying for most of a person's bills simply because, if a questionable charge or charges happen to appear on one's bill...you may not really notice it in time to stop the auto-payment of that bill.

Once the company has debited your account for a bill, it tends to be more difficult to dispute the questionable charge(s) and obtain remedial action.  Carefully examining every bill one receives prior to paying it should be just like reviewing a bank statement & balancing one's checkbook.
