I recently purchased a used car from NORMAN-DAVID LINCOLN in WESTBROOK. The first day of driving it off the lot I encountered problems with the vehicle. I called the dealership for some help but they laughed and refused to help. So, I hired a lawyer. After contacting the Attorney General and Channel 8 consumer reporting, the dealership called me to offer an extended warranty or another car. I took the extended warranty on belief they would fix the car. Several months and numerous other problems including the originals, I called back up to ask for another car. They refused to help. Ive since then hired another lawyer and am suing them for selling me a lemon. Below are the numerous problems Ive had with this clunker:

1. The right foglight is hanging off the bumper right before I am to drive it off the lot. I notice it and they take it in for repair before I leave the lot. (That right there should have been and Oman not to purchase it!)

2. Transmission light comes on right after I leave the lot the first day. When this happens, the transmission automatically shifts into 3rd gear. You have to floor the pedal to get it to go from a stoplight. You can fix this problem by quick shifting into neutral at a stop, shutting the car off and then turning it back on. The transmission light will go off and you will be able to drive normal for at least another 15-20 minutes until the light comes back on.

3. The infamous Check Engine light stays on at all times. The dealer doesnt seem to know why even though the car has been back to the dealer so many times I cant even count. An employee of Midas told me I would not be able to get my car past Maine inspection because of this. So after July, I cannot drive the car anymore! Ill be paying a car payment on a car I cannot drive!!!

4. First day home, I checked the oil level. It was 2 quarts low. Youd think a dealership would have made sure the car was current on all fluid levels!

5. The next day the car dies in my driveway. It ends up needing a jump from a family member. Interesting eh?

6. The car is sold to me without a remote transmitter so I cannot turn off the alarm when it sounds. The alarm wrecked havoc waking my neighbors up late at night. Of course, I couldnt turn it off because again, they didnt give me a remote to turn it off. Several months later, they decide to give me one after my complaints about waking up the neighbors late at night.

7. The car has a burning oil smell coming from the heater. The fumes of this smell coming from the heater intoxicate us so we keep the heater off. It is fixed by replacing the valve cover gaskets.

8. Brakes are completely worn and were looked at by Midas. They find another oil leak in the rear axle. Car was taken back to the dealership again to get the rear gasket replaced, new front brakes and sensors.

9. Car is overheating and leaking coolant. The car is taken back up for repair and overheats in the parking lot of the dealer. Smoke and fluid everywhere. (keep in mind the same computer problems regarding the transmission and check engine lights are also being looked again and again every time the car is taken back up)

10. The fuses blow when you turn on more than one heated seat at the same time.

11. While driving to New Hampshire, it was raining. I turned on the windshield wipers and proceeded to clean my windshield with the spray. While doing this I lost all oil pressure, battery voltage and every light on the dashboard came on.

12. Two new lights come on with the infamous transmission and check engine lights now. They are the ABS (anti-locking braking system) and Traction Control lights now. Keep in mind, when these lights are on, all these systems are rendered useless.

13. The leveling light flashes every so often. I read the manual and it states the car needs to be serviced immediately and not run until its fixed. Do you think the dealership can fix it? HA!

14. Rear suspension malfunctions. The cars rear-end is raised two feet into the air giving the impression my car is jacked-up in the back. It was taken in and they replaced a corroded wire fixing the problem.

15. After 7 months of trusting the dealership to fix the original problem and new problems I plead with them to give me a car, any car that will not give me anymore problems. I go up and look at one from which is 3500 less than the lemon I originally purchased stating I would take that one and suffer the loss at my expense to be nice. What is their response? You got it, big fat NO! They told me they would give me 5,000 for the lemon they sold me. I paid over twice that. That means this car has depreciated 1,000 dollars a month since I drove it off the lot. Now do you think I should have to settle with that? Either does my lawyer.

So please, save your sanity and DO-NOT purchase your next vehicle from this dealership. You will be creating more strife in your life than you bargained for.

Correction to my Original report

After re-reading the report on replacements for this vehicle, I need to correct a statement in this report. After running the VIN and receiving a very detailed report on parts that have been replaced on this vehicle, the report does not state the automobile had "minor front end damage". Although, the serviceman at a diferent dealership stated there had been minor front end damage with a headlamp and what not being replaced. He had worked for the dealer I am currently suing and didn't want to be involved because he still had a relationship with this dealer. The "monmount balance" is suppose to be Crankshaft Harmonic Balancer as well. Secondary Injection Hose has been replaced, right front door lock has been replaced, crankshaft harmonic balancer, all door locks replaced including the right front door lock a month earlier, fuse replacement, heated seat components,LT Headlamp,Heated Seat switch, emissions systems?, SDM Module replaced, LT COM HEADLAMP BLB, A/C Control Assembly replaced, Generator ASSY replaced, Battery replaced, A/C control Assembly replaced again (three times it's been reported), INST CNTR Panel replaced, RT Air duct R&R/replaced, Console cup holder, Elec Defr ACTR replaced, Elec Mode ACTR replaced, A/C control assembly replaced, RAD CONT RAD R&R replaced, A/C resistor replaced, Glove door R&R replaced, ash tray R&R replaced, Hi LVL stop lamp RP, Radio amplifier RPL, Tape player removed and repaired, Radio amplifier RPL again, and LT FT DR LCK R&R/RP. The above have been reported on the GM vehicle Inquiry System. I am so glad the salesman stated "no there hasn't been" when I asked him if there had been any engine problems. (Make a note for myself from now on, don't trust used car salesman and check the vehicle for yourself before purchasing, lol) I did however check the airbag covers on my vehicle at the advice of a reader and they do not say SRS on them. They do however say Airbag on both of them. Are they suppose to say SRS on the originals? Maybe I should check this out with the manufacturer. Thanks for the advice!

Sounds like your car has been in a major crash

I find it interesting that you found there was been 'minor front end damage' I would look into this further. There is a possibility the car may have been severely damaged but an insurance company lowballed the claim and didn minimal repairs. Based upon my experience being sold a car that had been totalled and covered up, it sounds like this car has either been a lemon buyback, totalled, possibly both. Based upon what you've said, my guess is that this car has been in a major accident... the front end was probably smashed in would be my guess. Does this car have air bags? If so, is there an air bag light on as well? Also, if it does have air bags, check the covers, are they the originals? (Originals usually say 'SRS' on them, check both driver and passenger) check the vehicles history and trace the car's history as far back as you can.. hope this helps.

New problems from the Lemon Norman David sold me

16. Right front door will no longer shut unless we lock it first. While transporting an Autistic Client of mine, we turned a corner and his door flew right open. If his seatbealt hadn't have been on, he would have flown right out of this wonderful car that Norman David sold me. No one can ride in the front passenger side seat any longer because after locking it and closing it, we can no longer get it back open. 17. Both foglamps have decided to fall off and dangle off the front bumper. Only one hanging foglamp works now. 18. While commuting 30 miles to a neighboring city, the car started to shake violently. The entire body rattled and made a loud buzzing noise. I was convinced that this day would be the end of my life thinking the car was going to blow-up! Heck, after all the problems I've encountered, I wouldn't have doubted it! I contacted the dealership and told them of the new problems, they asked me to bring it in. They were going to attempt to fix the new and older problems again for the umteenth time. I asked them if they had come to a decision on whether they were going to give me my money back but there was no response yet. I am tired of this ritual of taking it up and getting it back to deal with the original and new problems again and again. So I chose to not take it up and park it. I've now parked the vehicle in my drive-way. I've done some research on the vehicle by contacting another dealer and having them run the VIN on my car. The results were amazing! Many, many vital engine parts have been replaced on this vehicle including the water pump, monmount balance??, from work on the heated seats and right front passenger side door!! How about that? I asked the gentleman who sold me the car if there had been any engine problems or accidents in this vehicle. He told me no there had not. Even though the report given to me from another dealership said there had been minor front damage with the replacement of a headlamp and what not including the other engine part replacements. How about them apples? My lawyer is still waiting on a response to the drafted lawsuit letter given to the dealership. So far, they have not bothered to contact us. God help me! Oy!
