A good way to take care of this situation is to ask North Shore to verify this account. Write them a letter. Include a copy of the collection letter that they sent to you. In the letter, tell them; That you owe BMG $0. Ask them to verify this with the original creditor. (The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act states that they MUST discontinue collection attempts, until they verify this account.) Let them know that because they are attempting to collect on a paid balance,(or an account that doesn't exist, you didn't specify) that you WILL NOT be responsible for intrest or collection fees. (You will not pay for THIER mistakes!) Also tell them that you expect NO negative marks on your credit report because of thier mistake, and if they have already done so, you kindly request that these marks be removed, IMMEDIATLY. Remember to always be nice! You atract more bees with honey. Do not do any of this business over the phone, rather, do it in writing only. Keep copies of everything you receive. I would love to see on here if this has helped in any way. :)
