In viewing the Internet site, in the “About Novel Remodeling” section, it makes reference to “the idea of quality cannot be compromised” and “adding value work”. Well it definitely didn’t apply to how my property was left after dishing out over $28k for the work that was done. Much to my demise, and when I saw the artificial turf being installed and saw the huge gap between the level it was placed in comparison to the pavers that were installed, should have made me put a halt to the work and DEMAND that it be done correctly. I iterated that it should have been at the height of the pavers, but John and his partner insisted this was fine and how it was supposed to be. The gap up to 3 inches between the pavers/turf is atrocious and the pavers began shifting not too long after the work was completed. In addition, where the wood chips were put, is now full of weeds. Not even a protective barrier was placed to avoid this. The whole point was to cover the ground to keep anything, such as weeds, from growing in that area again! In late September, 2016, after I contacted Novel, just shy of 2 years that the work had been completed to mention my concerns of pavers loosening on my walkway, but more importantly that the driveway was no longer level, someone was sent to fix the walkway pavers. It was quite obvious that they were instructed to “patch up” where they had come undone. When I asked the worker when he was to begin the driveway, he said that he was only instructed to do the walkway. I was in disbelief. My original complaint was mostly for the driveway as the main concern! This company doesn't believe in quality of work and they are a "remodeling" company, which should have been the key for me to look elsewhere. What I had done, was pavers/synthetic grass and they are NOT good in this area. The work left behind was absolutely pathetic. John and his partner use their charm to sway customers. Don't do business with them at all costs. You'll regret it later!!

 Our Response

When it comes to quality work and dependable remodeling and outdoor repairs, we do provide top quality work homeowner’s can rely on. Being in the industry for over 15 years, we have a proven record of providing exceptional service our clients can count on.

That being said, Let us turn our attention to this complaint. This client is complaining about weeds growing through the wood chips. The ground was graded and compacted in preparation for the wood chips. Then a weed barrier was installed and secured. As nature is unpredictable, seeds can blow in the area and weeds can grow in place regardless of the barrier installed. Some maintenance is required.

Secondly, the customer is complaining about the gaps between the concrete and artificial turf. Like we recommended to the client before we even began the work, the area is on a slight slope. Often areas on a slope tend to slip during heavy rains, ground shifting and etc. The gaps occurred during time, which we went back out to and repair the areas affected. We recommended the customer to install retainer wall to keep the area from slipping. The customer refused as they were on a budget.

We ensure customer satisfaction on all of our projects. We have customers sign approvals throughout the project to ensure we are all on the same page. In addition to signed documents stating what was done and her agreement, she paid for the entire amount through progress payments. Each stage of the project a payment was collected. Clearly the customer was very satisfied to pay in full. After 2 years, lots can happen to an area. We stood by our work and sent out a crew to repair the areas affected. Not much more we can do in terms of standing by our workmanship and keeping clients happy.
