Buyers should beware of Pawn Shops to begin with, but I had heard these folks were legit. As it turns out my gut was right and I bought a fake Rolex. They advertise and make a point to tell you that buying a Rolex with box and papers from them will save you money, I should have gone to China Town

So here is how it went down, I stop in one day and the manager Clint Asbell, was a nice young man, he was assuring and I do have to admit the place looked nicer than the average Pawn Shop. (Thing is, you can try to polish a turd, but at the end of the day, it's still a turd.) I told him I was looking for a watch as a gift and had seen Rolexes in a local magazine ad. He showed me what he had and over the course of a few visits, I took money I had saved up for years and bought my anniversary present.

I was so proud, my anniversary rolled around and I presented my hard earned gift, which made our special day the best in a long time. My better half noticed something funny I had not noticed and took it to Gaus & Son Jewelers, they are across the street at the Oaks mall and have a great reputation and are a certified dealer.

It turns out the watch was a GREAT replica! They mixed original and fake parts to fool the untrained eye, which makes sense, (if you are dishonest) if you can tear apart 1 original and make 4 or 5 fakes, why not?

I went back and confronted the owner, Sal Fluriach, (who also owns Gold Standard West, beware of that place too), he initially accused me that I never purchased the watch there. I patiently went home, came back and I showed him the receipt and a copy of my credit card statement showing a charge of $6,000 dollars from there.

After I proved I bought it there, his tune changed, he accused me of tampering with the original product. We went round and round for several minutes, then he wrote down his lawyers number on a piece of paper, gave it to me, told me to take it up with him, and had another employee, Jeremy Martin, escort me out. His attorney was just as nasty and arrogant as Sal Fluriach was, I am now out $6,000 dollars and own a great fake.

After this happened to me, I started digging around and found out the following:

they have lost people's Pawned items before

committed insurance fraud

got their check cashing permit shut down by the state for gouging people

sold Moissanite diamonds (lab created) through someone they hired

knowingly bought stolen guns and other property

from what I understand (Jeremy Martin spilled the beans to someone I know)they sell and buy gold off the books, about $100,000 worth per year, IRS should check them out

False and Slanderous report!

#2REBUTTAL Owner of company

Sat, April 14, 2012

This report is false and slanderous.  The names and information given should be reviewed and should have to be proven true before they are reported this way.  The owners of this business should sue this person, as the store is well known for being a great place to do business.

It is highly regarded by the police and has cooperated fully for years, and this can be verified by calling Gainesville Police Department and the Alachua County Sheriff's Office.

It is worth you while to take the time to get the facts regarding this store.  If the owners were in the habit of selling fake items, the store would be out of business.  Instead is is the most highly regarded pawn shop in Alachua Country and also does more business than any other in the county.  You don't get that kind of customer loyalty by doing shady business.

The owners are long time residents of Gainesville, thirty years or more, and are outstanding citizens who support local charities and the community in general.

Please note that Clint Asbell is not longer with the company.

Oaks Pawn and Jewelry Respose to False Reports

#3REBUTTAL Individual responds

Tue, October 21, 2008

First, I would like to say that any of our customers know this is not how we conduct our business. If there has ever been such a situation, we handled it the best way possible and made sure that in the end our customers were more than satisfied. We have spent years, working to become a customer-driven company and are very dedicated to making every customers buying or pawning experience comfortable, convenient and the most satisfying experience possible. We would truely love for the two people who are responsible for these "false" reports, to come forward and show the proof of the item that was purchased and that we were were unwilling to resolve the situation. As the Store Manager, i can personally say that i have never sold a Rolex Watch and had a customer come back claiming the watch was a fake. On top of that, i can promise we have never escorted or kicked anyone out of our store as mentioned in the first report. In reguards to the second report i can promise we have never told anyone in our store to get lost. If these reports were true we would have made the situation right for the customer, however we are not even familiar with these two situations. As the Store Manager, i can guarantee this statement because i am the individual that has to deal with these issues. We are sure that these reports are being written by a disgruntled ex-employee or an individual who is trying to make personal attacks against either the owner or manager and trying to do so through these fasle reports at the store. once again, i would like to say that any of our "REAL" customers know that we have an outstanding reputation throughout the community and know that the accusations in these reports are not how we conduct our business at Oaks Pawn and Jewelry!!!! We would absolutely love, and challenge "ANGRY BUYER" and "BIG JOHN" to come forward and let us know who you are and the apparent problems you hold!!!!! If you have any questions reguarding these reports please contact us at 352.332.7529

I have doing business for a while with oaks jewelry and pawn buying selling and pawing of various items over the years and always had a good experience. The owner ( Sal ) the manger (Clint) and rest of the staff have always showed me good courteous service. Some the things that I have bought from them over the years have included jewelry such as a Rolex that i bought for my fathers birthday. It was not a fake. Before I gave it to him I took to it appraiser to have it appraised for my father to be able to get insurance for it. The Appraiser appraised it for $5000 and told me that it was a fine genuine rolex. I am not sure as to what kinda problem, vendetta, or motive this guy has, but i can tell you that from my experience that i have never have had a problem like his.
