I operate a small chain of retail stores in the Albany, NY area. We are seeing a series of fraudulent charges on our Verizon telephone bills for Directory Assistance calls to Nevada through OAN Services on behalf of Telseven, LLC.

The typical charge is $3.99 plus $1.65 administrative fee, plus tax. No calls are actually placed, but the charges are posted on the telephone bills. In New York State you can have a free "Miscellaneous charge block" put on your telephone account by calling your local telephone company, and this will probably stop larger bogus charges, like $50 a month for internet services, but it doesn't seem to block charges in the $5 to $6 range.

OAN Services is widely reported as a fraudulent player in a variety of internet provider and communication scams (long distance services, etc.). The Telseven.com web site has no useful information, and their 800 number is answered by machine only.

If you are seeing charges from these companies on your telephone bills, call your phone company and have them reversed, then file complaints with your state's Public Service Commission, your state's Attorney General, and the FCC. Good luck and be vigilant in reviewing your bills!

Same scam hit me, too.

I also got these same charges to the same number in NV, plus one more listed as "USF Carrier"? The creeps billed these supposed calls at 12:00 midnight. I must have sleepwalked, gotten dressed, drove to the office, and decided to call information in NV where I know absolutely nobody, drove home, got undressed, returned to bed, and awoke in the morning with no memory of any of it. Yeah, right! OAN has promised a credit. I have contacted the phone company and told them that this fraud is becoming rampant. The rep agreed that she is hearing a lot about this lately. Meanwhile, I am contacting the Public Utility Commission, the FTC, the FCC and anyone else I can think of to complain to. This has become a monthly hassle and opening my phone bill has become a nauseating experience. I guess they are hitting businesses because we cannot go unlisted for obvious reasons. There is always the chance that Accounts Payable is not looking at the bills, but simply paying them. This is getting to be the poops! Scammers will use anything they can find these days, and phone numbers are wide-open. It stinks!
