O'Dell Trailers & Hitches Deceptive Trade Practices and Poor Customer Service Largo Florida
We had a trailer axle broken and left it in a customers’ driveway. I got a call Friday morning that the customer wanted the trailer moved immediately. I was away from my office and tried to work from my cell phone. I called my usual tow truck driver in Tampa and was quoted $55. He told me that he would not be available Friday but would do it Saturday. The customer could not wait so I called a local tow company found through Google.com. The towing company charged me $100 to tow the trailer 12 miles but I was forced to spend the extra money to get it out of the customers’ driveway that day. I told the driver it was the trailer company on Ulmerton Road. He brought it to the wrong company. I take responsibility for this, since I was not specific with him.
Express Trailers called me Monday morning and told me that the trailer was at the wrong company. I told them that I would get it moved to O’Dells. I wanted the manufacturer of the trailer to work on it.
On Monday , 7/13, I called O’Dells and ask “Jimmy” , if they had a way to get it moved from Express Trailers. He told me that they had no way to move it. I told him that I could get a tow truck from Tampa for $50. I told him that if he could find someone the same or cheaper, to move it for me. Since it was only 4.6 miles, I thought that it was a reasonable request.
I got a phone call Tuesday morning from O’Dells. The person told me that the axle would need to be replaced. He told me the cost was $175. He told me that I needed a new tire and wheel and the cost would be $140. I told him to fix the axle and that I would get the replacement tire/wheel. I called this person back on Tuesday afternoon and was told that the trailer was ready to pick up but needed the wheel.
I called back to find out the balance so that I could send a company check with a driver to deliver the tire and pick up the trailer. I was told that the towing bill was $100 (not the $50 that I approved) and that the axle repair was $269.15 (not the $175 that I approved). I disagreed with their pricing and was told since I disagreed that I would need to pay them in cash. I told them that my business paid with company check, not cash. I was told that the trailer could sit there until I brought cash (or debit card).
I own three O’Dell trailers and am disgusted by the manner in which they treat their customers. My trailers have a lot of wear and tear on them from daily use. If I was told by O’Dell that the trailer could not be fixed, I was prepared to purchase a new trailer. This has changed my mind in regards to this company. Their customer service is terrible and they have deceptive sales practices. After prices were approved, they charged more and held my trailer for ransom.

WE WERE PUT INTO THE MIDDLE OF SOMEONES PROBLEM LEAVING THE TRAILER AT WRONG PLACE AND BEING ASKED TO HAVE IT TOWED TO OURS WE DON'T SET THE TOWING PRICES I WOULD IMAGINE ALL TOWING COMPANYS ARE CLOSELY PRICED.
THE PRICE QUOTED WAS APPROXIMATE AND DID NOT INCLUDE TAX, WE HAVE SOLD THEM SEVERAL TRAILERS WITH NO PROBLEMS BUT WE ALWAYS DELT WITH THE BUSINESS OWNER NOT KEN HIS BROTHER.
AS FAR AS MAKING THEM PAY IN CASH WE HANDELED THE TRANSACTION BY CREDIT CARD AND THE BUSINESS OWNER LEFT HAPPY.
THE OWNER HAS STOPPED BACK IN ON SEVERAL OCASSIONS AND HAD NO PROBLEMS ALSO INQUIRED ABOUT NEW TRAILERS. WE APPRECIATE HIS BUSINESS AND ARE SORRY FOR THE MISUNDERSTANDINGS WE HAD WITH KEN.
WE LOOK FORWARD TO DOING BUSINESS WITH THEM IN THE FUTURE. ON ANOTHER NOTE THEY OWN A GREAT KITCHEN CABINET REMODELING COMPANY IN TAMPA.
