OfficeTeam (A Robert Half Company) uses attractive ads and pay ranges to lure you into their offices.  I found this out the hard way.  I feel as though they wasted my time, money and effort.

I saw an ad for a job that closely matched my previous work experience posted on OhioMeanJobs via CareerBuilder on Tuesday, October 8, 2013.  I contacted the Beachwood, OH branch directly to make an inquiry about this posting BEFORE applying for the job/registering and completing a profile on their website.  I was told by the receptionist that I would have to complete a profile on the OfficeTeam website.

In the meantime, the receptionist forwarded me to the voicemail of Alyssa Wagers to check the availability of the job posted.  She is a staffing manager at this branch.  As I started to complete my profile, she contacted me.  I was told by Alyssa that the job was still open, that she couldn't tell me more until I came into the branch and that she couldn't make any promise that it would be available in the next week.

She scheduled a meeting with me for Thursday (October 10th) and gave me a choice between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.  I chose the evening as I had another conflict.  She then forwarded me four ProveIt! exams to complete via e-mail...three that were irrelevant to this type of position. After we scheduled this appointment, I continued to complete my profile.  I was then contacted by another branch of OfficeTeam before I had even finished my profile!  I told them that the Beachwood branch had already set up a date for me to meet for a specific position posted through their branch.

When I came into their office today, they had me fill out HIPAA, W-2 forms, the whole shebang.  I waited to meet with Alyssa after completing my paperwork.  She came out to greet me looking like a Sex in The City reject.  I can tell she bought her outfit from a catalog (MetroStyle, Newport News).  Pretty girl, but I feel the whole situation was unprofessional so my bias to her dress could be influenced by my experience.

As we went into an office to talk, I began to speak about the job that was posted.  She waited until I was finished and stated "actually, this job has already been filled.  If you would have come in at 8:00, you would have gotten it."  Bull!!! It's not the type of job that people should fill that quickly, it's not a typical type of administrative job; there would have been an interview at the actual company before they chose someone.

That means that either the job never existed or that someone was scheduled to interview at the hiring company when I originally asked if the job was available.  In other words, my time was wasted and she knew that it was possible someone would get the job before I came in to speak with her about it.

She asked me questions concerning my previous job experience but I didn't feel like answering them.  I wanted to get up, go out to the receptionist and ask her to give me back all of my paperwork so that I could walk out with it.  After several more questions, Alyssa then of course told me that she had no opportunities available for me at this time.  I bid her farewell and left more than a little annoyed.

After I returned home, I looked online and saw that there were lots of complaints about OfficeTeam doing this type of thing to lure people in.  I felt so stupid.  I called back to the Beachwood branch and asked to have my papers shredded.  The receptionist asked if I wanted to be unregistered and I told her "yes."  I hope that they did as I requested and that I never hear from them again.
