At the time of this post I have a rebate that was denied by OnRebate because I sent a copy of the Packing Slip, not a receipt, even though the OnRebate web site Customer Service tab, Q&A section said this would be OK.

Q: What is a packing slip?

A: Packing slips can be substituted for an invoice or sales receipt. When making a purchase over the phone or online, you receive the package and packing slip through a delivery service. The packing slip must include your bill to and ship to address, where and when the item was purchased, what was purchased as well as the purchase date. All information must meet the requirements as stated in the terms and conditions of the rebate offer.

OnRbate also has you fill out part of the rebate on-line. You will check a box saying that you have read and understand their privacy policy. You will get an email from them and have to reply with some bogus number. BEWARE! Now they know you have a working email address. If you read thier privacy policy, they claim your information will only be shared with carefully selected marketing partners. Congratulations! You have just been screwed by OnRbate for the first time! Spam and call comming you way! More to follow! Go to the following site and see for yourself!

I have contacted both the manufacture and retailer where the item was purchased, both asked to have copies of the rebate information faxed to them and offered to mediate on my behalf. I will probably get the rebate due me. Whether or not the rebate is paid no longer matters at this point. I'm tired of companies like OnRebate taking advantage people! They know that a certain percentage of people will not even file for a rebate. Further, of the people that do file, they know they will not fight for their rebate. They also know that if they stall you long enough, they won't have to pay. This all means more money in their pocket! OnRebate even has people just for damage control that read forums like the Rip-Off Report and reply with a friendly ?We are here to help you!' If one of those folks happen to read this. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME! I am aware of your stall tactics. You may want to keep your stolen money for legal fees!

Anyway, I want to help other people that feel they have been scammed by OnRebate and other fulfillment houses with things you can do to fight back. Know what they do to avoid paying the rebate that is legally yours. If enough people make noise, they will be held accountable.

(((ROR redacted link))) did an interview with one of these scam artists. It is an interesting and informative read. You will find out just how some of the rebate fulfillment houses intend to keep your money. This industry has no honor.

What can you do?

If you must purchase an item with a rebate, especially from OnRebate, pay with a credit card. This option usually gives you 60 days to file a claim with them. Also, do not buy if the only way you can afford it is with the rebate.

First of all, make sure you fill out the rebate forms exactly as the instructions require, signatures etc. Read through the forms a while after you complete them just to be sure.

Make sure the UPC label is firmly attached, tape works nicely. Don't use a paperclip for example, this will likely lead to a claim by the rebate company that the UPC was missing.

Make copies of everything you send in including the envelope. This is your only record should you need proof. Remember, they may claim something was not included or correct.

Use certified mail or at least delivery confirmation. One of the scams is to claim they never received the paperwork.

Mark on a calendar when you sent the rebate and when you expect to receive your check. If you do get a check, cash it right away. They count on a percentage taking too long to do this. They have a time limit for the check to be good.

Don't let them get away with stalling. Several weeks after you send the rebate, they may ask for more information, then say it will be another 8-10 weeks. This is a stall tactic designed to get beyond the payout time or simply get you to give up.

If your rebate is denied or slow getting to you, start making noise. If you contact the rebate company by phone, you can get around the automated answer often by dialing 0. Try www.gethuman.com/us for information on this. It costs them money when you talk with an actual human. Call often.

Contact the manufacturer of your item. They will often help with your rebate claim. After enough complaints, they may opt not to do business with them in the future. Why should they let their good name be tarnished by companies like OnRebate?

Contact the retailer for the same reason. If you don't buy an item because the rebate is handled by a company like OnRebate, contact the retailer and let them know that also. If you do this, with any luck, and enough complaints, these scam companies will simply dry up!

You can fill out complaints on-line with the Better Business Bureau (BBB). (((ROR redacted link)))

While they may have no legal authority, they will contact the scammers on your behalf. They also keep a database to warn other potential victims. You should see OnRebates score!

You can also file a complaint with the FTC or Federal Trade Commission at https://rn.ftc.gov/pls/dod/wsolcq$.startup?Z_ORG_CODE=PU01 and fill out the on-line complaint form. If they pursue your claim, you will get results. The more complaints they get, the more apt they are to do this.

Contact your States Attorney General. They often have on-line complaint forms. If they get involved, you will get results. The Attorney General of NY is known for this.

Contact the Attorney General of the state that the rebate company is in. In the case of OnRebate this would be (((ROR redacted link)))

Whatever you do don't give up! That is what these scammers want you to do! If all the people companies like OnRebate have screwed make enough noise, they will have to pay, or at least do business honestly. Speak up!!!

Enough said?
