Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
In February 2007 I responded to an ad for "Experienced Sales Rep." which appeared in the Columbus (Ohio) Dispatch. I called the phone number listed and spoke with a man, who gave me a description of the job and asked several questions about my sales experience. I had and interview with the owner a few days later, he offered me the job and I accepted. This company provides free Book Covers & Folders for schools which is paid for by selling advertising to local businesses. Shortly after I was hired I found out some negative things about this company which were red flags about what I could expect from them in the future. I should have resigned right away, but I am like most people, I have a family to support and bills to pay.

In May 2007 I received a commission check for a project I had completed, however, several days after I deposited the check my bank informed me that P. G. Shocks put a Stop Payment Order on the check. I contacted the owner, Greg Shocklee, to resolve this and I asked him to send be the balance of the commissions he owes me. He has never denied that he owes me the commissions, but he refuses to send it to me.

I have been in sales for over 30 years and I am sorry to say that it is a profession in transition, and not for the better. Today there are many companies that do not hire employees, they act like they are hiring employees during the interview but once they offer you the position then they sign you up as an Independent Sales Contractors, P. G. Shocks did this to me. There are several reasons why companies do this but the most important reasons are that it saves them from paying their portion of your Social Security (7%+) and no unemployment benefits, etc - the Sales Contractor in-cures much high expenses and liabilities, and it is much easier for the companies to cheat the reps out of commissions, because state and federal laws do not protect Independent Contractors - you have to file a civil law suit, and these companies make sure that the amount they owe is well below $10,000 because they know that an attorney is not going to take the case on a contingancy bases, especially if the company is located in a state different than the plaintiff 's home state. Most contracts state that any legal action must take place in the company's home state.

PLEASE BE SMART AND INVESTIGATE ANY COMPANY BEFORE YOU SIGN UP AS AN INDEPENDENT SALES CONTRACTOR...

Larry,

As a former employee of this company as well, I can tell you that Greg is absolutely writing these in his own defense.  This man will go to any length to try to make himself look like a pillar in the community, and only makes himself look like a fool in doing so.  Greg often gets caught using fake names to do business.  He has even gone so far as to sign company documents under the name "Bill Gordon"  I have one if you would like to see it.

You never explained why you are no longer working for Greg. If he was such a great employer, why not stay there?

You just so happened to come across Ripoff Report searching for P. G. Shocks website, REALLY? I would certainly think that you would have their phone number and address for your resume and therefor would not need to look up the website. You would just call Greg and give your friend a reference directly to Greg. Right?

As far as your question about why I went to work for Greg, the answer is very simple... I was the sales manager for a company but when they sold the business to a competitor the new owners terminated the sales staff. They already had their own sales staff covering the same territory.

For a period of time I was working as an independent contractor for a couple of companies, but the work and income was spotty. So, I was looking for something to provide an adequate income for my family until the right opportunity came along.

Just remember that during a down economy the higher income professionals have a harder time finding the right opportunity for several reasons, especially when you get into your 50's and 60's.

Fortunately for me shortly after leaving P. G. Shocks, that right opportunity came along and working out very well for me and my family.

In closing, I don't understand why you fill the need to defend Greg when somebody has a legitimate complaint about his unethical business practices. If you had a good experience that is great, but it does not mean that I and others did not have a BAD experience with Greg.

I really am an ex employee and I just discovered this site when I sought out Greg's website to see if he was still in the business. I have a friend that might make a good fit. As for your claim that you have been a successful commissioned salesmen for 40 years, why would you go to Greg in the first place? I'm sorry your relationship did not pan out as mine did, but I wish you well in the future.

ARE YOU A REAL EX-EMPLOYEE???

When I read this ex-employees rebuttal, I asked myself 3 questions

1. Why would an ex-employee take the time to write a rebuttal for this company.

2. If you was happy with the way the owner of the company treated you, why don't you still work for him. And...

3. Why did it take you 5 years to write a rebuttal.

You are right, commissioned sales is not for the faint of heart. If you are implying that I can't stand up to commissioned sales, you are wrong. I've been in commissioned sales for the better part of my sales career of over 40 years.

I think I know why somebody wrote this rebuttal for Greg Shockley. I was talking with a women a few weeks ago who had interviewed with Greg. She said that Greg offered her the job that he advertised and she accepted. However, the next day she read my original Ripoff Report and decided to call me. She then decided to call Greg and declined the job. Of course Greg up set and said she had signed a contract and had to start, but of course she told him that she would not work for him period. She told me that  Greg was very unprofessional on the phone.

The only thing that makes sense is that the person who wrote this rebuttal is not who they say they are.

I think any intelligent person can draw their own conclusion.

P.G. Shocks did me right

I was an inexperienced college grad when I went to work for Greg Shocklee. I worked three and a half years for him . In that time I was taught a profession that allowed me to make a living. I was no star by any stretch of the imagination but the effort Greg put into making me successful was far beyond any expectations I had.

Commission sales is not for the faint of heart, and the people that I saw succeed did so as a direct result of the training and backup support Greg provided.

I don't understand how a person can receive COMMISSIONS on fraudulent orders. This company paid COMMISSIONS on paid orders, so how was I trying to get paid for something they would not pay unless they received payment first???

And why did they put a stop payment on the commission check that I received for a completed project that they had "received all ads paid in full" either by check or credit card??? I bet they can't answer that one can they?

P.S. After several e-mail exchanges with the owner, I located the representative that serviced the territory that I was servicing and found out that the owner did the same thing to him but on a much larger scale. The representative worked for this company for 22 years and was cheated out of many thousands of dollars.
