These idiots made the "mistake" of contacting me after 10 pm with a telemarketing call.

The caller told me she was calling from Sydney, Australia when I pressed her for her location. She said I was being invited to a grand opening of MacArthur Blvd. I asked her where that was and she replied Newport. Well, since I live in CONNECTICUT I was curious since I had not heard of any place by that name and there is no MacArthur Blvd in Newport, RI.

She finally figured out that it was in Newport Beach, CA.

When I informed her she was violating the state telemarketing laws by calling me she pretended the connection was breaking up and hung up.

Using caller ID i called back 949-374-5122 and spoke to someone who sounded like the same person. I asked to speak to a manager and after quite a bit of threatening I was connected to Mark Rowntree.

Mark claimed to be located in the Phillipines and was suprised when I asked for airfare to visit the "Grand Opening".

He was even more suprised to learn I was several thousand miles from CA.

He appologized for a mistake in dialing but I let him know that the caller knew my name and had oviously called correctly.

He then said I must have been in CA - well 25 years ago before cell phones I had visited but that could not have led to them getting my cell phone and name.

I'm sure they ripped it off something I attached information to but the real issue is the calling after hours.

Since I hate companies that do this, I plan to contact CT officials and seek restitution. I also plan to do my own telemarketing to then at their offices 949-587-2400. A few hundred phone calls to various people in their organization should be great fun. I will surely inform them that the phone calls are retaliation and will stop when I feel compensated for thier violation of the law.

From what I read, NO ONE should get involved with them unless you just want to bother them.

Feel free to call them and bother them a bit, ask all kinds of great, probing questions and drive them nuts.

#2UPDATE EX-employee responds

Unfortunately, I know first hand what they do. Every time you go to a fair, mall, or a place where you enter your name for the grand prize car, trip, boat, etc. You are giving them permission to call and harrass you. Who? Anybody! They buy these pieces of paper from those companies like Home Depot, ETC. Not that you ever even wanted a person to call you at all. But what they used to do is they would hire employees, mainly high school students and people that don't know any better. Pay them chump change, cut their hours, even though they actually worked for them and cut the bonuses they actually deserve. They give you a group of cards. You stay in basic cubical almost voting size desk with a phone. Your responsibility is to get the person to come to the presentation. The cards I had said people entered for cars, boats, appliances, etc. Not for timeshares, nor did these cards say they would be sold to someone for them to call you. A lot of the time the people would just curse us out or hang up on us and I really commend them for that. But when they ageed to come down, they got the so called closer on the phone to confirm and they also monitored the calls. For what I don't know, everything about them is crooked. All I know is that I worked for them in the 90's, at that time I idn't feel right they were located out of an upstairs downtown San Diego Bank office with security-very hush hush. 1 day I heard that the entire office was really nervous because they heard the news was on its way and they wanted everyone to stay away from the doors. I immediately left and never looked back not even from my check. Because I figured whatever they were doing I wanted no part of. Found out later that someone turned them in for saying they had a timeshare but there actually wasn't one even built. Also got a settlement check from them later on having to do with an ex employee suing the entire company for employee fraud. Guess what? They recently called us for a timeshare presentation, how ironic is that. Sat through the crap from 2:00pm to 7:30, yes 7:30pm in Encino, CA. Did not get all the gifts promised? Not even half the the stuff promised, car/money thing I believe is a lie and still not sure if they have an actual location on all these places or not. I know I've never heard of their property in Las Vegas or seen it. I hope this helps.
