First, let me say that I feel for you! Purchasing a house is not only a symbol of status and accomplishment in today's society, it also a sound financial invesment. Purchasing a home is not something most people enter into lightly, and when you find out your interest rate will be through the roof, or worse yet you a re denied, all because of poor credit....It's plain awful!
There are some solutions I can offer you to help clear up the mess Palisade Collections has put you in. First and foremost, CHECK THEIR LICENSE! Most people don't even know that to collect in a state, the agency must first be licensed in that state! If they are not licensed, you can really hit them where it hurts and file complaints with the Federal Trade Commission and your local State Banking Department. These two agencies regulate collection agencies and over-see the laws that govern them. The Better Business Bureau is pretty much a joke!
Mail the letter by certified, return receipt mail to ensure they can't say they never received your letter. They have 30 days from the receipt of your letter to respond. Demand PROOF of this debt in the form of a contract, note or some other instrument which bears your signature. NEVER give them any personal information such as your social security number or date of birth. Companies have been known to create the account in question using this information!
Consumers often times simply don't understand their rights. Our web site has all the free information you need to take on harassing creditors as well as correcting errors on your credit report.
