Paul Mitchell in Charlotte, NC has one of the most poorly-operated facilities for cosmetology.
#1 They are way over-priced
#2 They use "learning-leaders" who are new graduates or have little education to instruct students
#3 They treat you great during the tour and give you lots of attention, making parents feel that this is the place to send their kids for a top-notch education and once they have your money, the students and parents are basically ignored
My son has 1400 hours completed of the 1500 he needs to graduate. He was hospitalized during the end of his coursework and had to take time off which should have been considered an LOA or Medical Condition, but was counseled that he should withdraw. He did not sign the paperwork, because he was fully intent on returning to school after recovery. Well, since that time, he/we have made numerous calls, emails and my son even went into the school to talk to someone who gave him hope of coming back, only to receive a letter 2 weeks later stating that he could not come back and gave no reason why he could not return. Nice "culture" Paul Mitchell.
Well they got their 18K and my son has no degree, again with only 100 hours left. There was nothing that he done that would have been so aggregious for him to be treated in this manner, especially in light of his medical condition.
At this point we have contacted headquarters, as there may be a discrimination factor playing a role in him being disallowed to return to school. We have also contacted The State's Attorney Office, Dept of Education and will continue to contact whoever will represent us in either returning our money, pass a;ong all of my son's hours to a community college or give my son the option of re-enrolling to complete approximately 2 weeks to graduate.
It is said that this happens so that they can make students wait 6 months to re-enroll so they can get more financial aid or money from goverment or parents. Fedloan states that his hospitalization should have been considered an LOA and should not be held against him or disallow him from returning to school, so we will definetly be filing a grievance with government funding as we did not get what we paid for therefore, deserve a refund of the full amount.
Having known what I know now and what Paul Mitchell's reputation is in the community, I would have never sent my son there. It is well-known how they operate and that they can get a cheaper and better education at community college.
IMO, Paul Mitchell Schools are grossly over-rated and shame on them for taking away the dreams, money and time of young people and their families.
Parents/Students beware of this school...I don't know what "culture" they are talking about, but it is not one of kindness or truly caring about students future in a succesful career, in our experience, and at least one other student we know who has attended there.
Just to let you be aware, Paul Mitchell of Charlotte, you do not have a good reputation. Ask any hair dresser/cosmetologist in Charlotte and see what percentage of them say your school is stellar...
