I reserved an economy car from payless online for a weekly rate + 1 day for a rate of $17 a day. I had my confirmation number and credit card with me when I arrived at the airport rental car station. I was told that the $17 a day deal ended the day before I picked up the car and the lowest price they could offer me was a walk up price of $40 a day. Since I budgeted myself for a weeks vacation in that location and a week in another location and had another reservation with this company for the following week at another location I was furious cause I could not afford to rent the car at that price and still have extra money for other spending. I stepped to the side of the counter and called my mom on my cell to check the interenet for prices on rental cars and see what price she gets quoted. My mom got quoted $17 a day. Lucky for me that I travel with a laptop and portable printer for photo's. I went to the internet port and logged on to the internet and got another quote for the car and reserved it for $17 again the price that I was told ended the day before. I printed this up and brought it to the desk and the lady told me that what I was doing was unethical and she would not honor the price, since I was originally a walk up (even though I had made reservations and got a quote a month before my trip). So I went to the next counter over which was Thrifty, and proceeded to ask them if they would honor someone elses prices and the gentleman smiled at the payless lady and said of course we will match it and beat it! Well I got a car bigger then economy and cheaper. I will never deal with payless again. The same thing happened on my second destination also, but I had to find another car company since they were not at the airport location, so I ended up paying $35 for a cab plus tip.
