A senior citizen friend of my family needed a water heater installed. She is much older in her years and for some reason decided to call the company that she had done business with for as long as she could remember. That business was Period Furniture House in Lexington, NC. (I believe they are operating under a new name now.) She had a standard 40 gallon electric water heater installed.

I am a plumber. I know for a fact that this brand of water heater is only sold by a particular local plumbing supplyhouse. The water heater cost them roughly between $163 and $200. I pay around $165 for this exact water heater. I usually get between $90 to $185 for an installation and my prices are common with most local plumbers. Lowes Home Improvement sells a competitor brand of the same water heater for $150. (Not as trustworthy in my opinion) They offer installation same day (in some cases) for a set rate of an additional $150.

{{Although I recommend that the general public call a qualified plumber to do the job. If there are other problems with your plumbing a qualified plumber can forwarn you, and fix them before they get out of hand.}}

The heater comes with a 6 year warranty. NO additional warranty is needed. Period Furniture House charged her nearly $700.00!!! They included an unnecessary extended warranty which she specifically told them that she absolutely did not want. They said "It's already added in." She said "Please remove it" They said "We can't do that." (Isn't that illegal?)

Look. I understand that all businesses (including myself) are in business to make good money, but this is ridiculous. I called them on her behalf and they said "Additional plumbing was required, increasing the bill." I examined they're "additional plumbing" It was standard installation. I would like to warn the senior citizens everywhere that you should always do a little homework before you pay someone like this. If you want a water heater, call a plumber or plumbing supply house, not this particular Furniture store.
