I am writing this letter in hopes that some kind of action will be taken against a store in the local mall to prevent any more animals from enduring the abuse I have witnessed on several occasions. The Pet Company #8, located in the Hamilton Mall 100 W. Black Horse Pike, Mays Landing NJ 08330 (609) 484-8968, is where I witnessed such abuse.

Most recently, on December 4 2006 my sister and I took a walk through this pet shop to see the animals. After minutes of us being there we started to hear clanging coming from behind the animals crates. After peeking through these crates we witnessed an employee of this pet shop throwing the animals bowls down the corridor, each bowl hitting the back of the animal's cages. We were shocked at this behavior and immediately told a manager on duty.

Five minutes later this manager came back and apologized stating, the employee is throwing the animals bowls because he is mad that he got called in. I proceeded to explain to her that not only were the bowls hitting the animals but that the animals now did not have anything to eat out of. At this point we witnessed several dogs not only lying in their own feces but the same employee had taken their food and dumped it on top of this same feces. These dogs were actually eating this food as well.

I also brought this up to the manager and she basically shrugged her shoulders and walked off. In addition i witnessed a huge English Mastiff puppy in a crate that was extremely small. This crate was so small that the dog couldn't even get up to turn around. All of these dogs have dirty crates, no food and no water. Not to mention the fact that most of them were either shivering or seemed to have kennel cough. The dogs had nothing underneath of them as they lay in a cold, feces infested crate.

On another occasion, several months back, I witnessed a similar situation at this same pet shop. There was a Dalmatian and another Mastiff type dog in crates way too small for them. Again these dogs couldn't even move around in their crates. I approached a manager, again, and pointed this out. She then replied, we'll take care of it. A week later the same dogs were in the same crates. Nothing was done.

I am extremely upset and sick over the fact that these poor puppies have to endure this pain and abuse. Nothing has been done at this pet shop by management and I feel as though it is my duty as an animal lover to report this. I believe this shop needs to be investigated thoroughly for it doesn't take care of its animals the way it should. If there is anything anyone can do to save these animals from the sickness' and abuse they will incur if they stay at this pet shop I would appreciate it greatly.

As a rule u should never buy pets from a retail outlet guaranteed probability of subquality animals or substandard care. Legal ok, but in reality only barely. Buy from a individual who cares about animals or from the 'better' rescue outfits.. reminder, some rescue outfits are actually criminal outfits.. I should know I ran a large legit rescue and dealt with both retail & badrescue. Also, you should consider buying only purebreed. Personally I wouldnt want a dog I can get for free. Very often u dont know what you are getting (medically or otherwise). With purchase of purebreed u also get huge guarantees.
