Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?

I bought two World of Warcraft accounts on Playerauctions.com, and was extremely worried about the security of a purchased account as the original owners can take them back relatively easily. However, playerauctions boasts about their "playerguardian" protection, in which you will get a complete refund in the form of a store credit in the event that an account is stolen back by the seller or becomes unrecoverable for a reason out of the buyers hands.

Both accounts that I bought were taken back by the original owners. Both characters were transferred back to their original servers with their original names, and only the original owners could have had the authenticator linked to each account disabled (you have to call Blizzard directly). I sent playerauctions screenshots, email records about the account information being changed etc... everything that I could possibly have short of an email saying "hello, I am the person who sold you the account and I have stolen it back".

I got the same reply from playerauctions about both accounts saying that there was not enough proof that the seller had taken the account back. They want evidence that simply does not exist, making it impossible for you to prove anything and get a refund. I have been a member of playerauctions since 2003 and have a 100% positive feedback rating for over 35 auctions (my name is Tarewmonk if you would like to check), and they couldn't care less about my satisfaction.

I don't expect to get a refund as I have already tried numerous times over the past couple of months, so I'm posting this as a warning to anybody who is looking to buy an account from playerauctions - there is absolutely nothing you can do if an account you buy is stolen back.

Greetings,

I am the Communications Manager here at PlayerAuctions, and I'd like to take the time to respond to  your original report.

Firstly, PlayerAuctions is a secured website designed around the principles of operating in the Real Money Trade industry while keeping all active members safe from any form of fraudulence. PlayerAuctions has been active since 1999 and thus possesses keen insight and veteran insight with regard to digital asset exchange.

Firstly, as I have investigated this members account, a few things arise.

1) Only 1 account has been reported as reclaimed
2) This investigation is still open.

Writing this report as a 'warning' to people before your investigation is officially closed is premature and ill-advised. Additionally, this violates our User Agreement which states that all transaction details are to remain confidential until orders/open cases are officially closed. This member has not received final word on their investigation.

Since the re-launching of the site, with PlayerGuardian technology, we have experienced a 97% positive feedback rating on all orders. These numbers are valid, and supporting documentation can be supplied. This means, that 'problematic orders' are far and few between. Additionally, to have such a drastically low negative feedback rate shows how PlayerAuctions shines above all other RMT industry companies who experience fraud rates that are astronomical.

Additionally, PlayerAuctions does not issue store credit without appropriate procedures being followed and without necessary correspondence. Our policies are not arbitrary but meant to protect both buyer and sellers. Additionally, our guarantees only cover game account loss through no fault of the buyer. We have found that there are cases where the buyer has lost access to the game account account, and it is of no fault of the seller. It is because of these cases that we act cautiously and meticulously requiring evidence to support that loss of access to the game account has occurred by the hands of the seller and is not by any means the fault of the buyer.

Lastly, the buyer states that there is nothing you can do if an account is stolen back. This simply is not true. We have aided many members in regaining access to their purchased game accounts. While it is true that some are irrevocably lost, such is not the case with all. This member's wish to discourage and discredit PlayerAuctions is unfounded and premature.

Please wait until your case is closed before you write a report.

I'm really not. It's a shady company doing shady business and they don't care because you don't have any recourse except posting on a ripoff forum that most people won't see. It's shady because buying/selling accounts and gold is against most MMO TOS agreements, and for good reason. Because they don't want to get their hands dirty in transactions like this. I find it amusing the number of people posting here about MMO acount and gold ripoffs. It's like people complaining because their pot dealer sold them a bag of oregano. What are you going to do? Nothing, that's what. Which is why people shouldn't put themselves in that position in the first place.
