Dear Mary of Northhampton--- I do lead investigations and handle communications for the BBB Serving Eastern Washington, North Idaho and Montana. First off, too bad you got roped into this REPACKAGING SCAM aka POST FINANCIAL COMPANY that is perpetuating out there. You are not alone. On many occassions, these types of scams seem like the ideal way to make money. Before anyone jumps all over the BBB and spreads what I believe is propaganda about them (two negatives make a negative and nobody gets anywhere with that SOUP), I must bring to light some real facts about the organization and hopefully dismiss some real MISCONCEPTIONS about BBB reports: 1) in the past five years that I've worked for our BBB, I have answered phones each and every day reading a variety of reports that are posted throughout the bureau system via the national web site, and more times than not, after finishing reading what might be the "worst" report on a company the BBB can report, we have people come back and ask, "So, they're okay?" It simply amazes ME how many people do not listen to what is being said via phone, 2) many people are under the assumption that when they call for a report on a company with the BBB that ANY and ALL reports that we have and can read are ALL MEMBERS. In other words, if we can read a report on a company to the general public, then they MUST be a member! This is FALSE. If a company is a member of the BBB, it is clearly stated in their report. I must rebuttal the information that you state regarding POST FINANCIAL COMPANY and your experience with the BBB you contacted for further information. Just this past week emails have been circulating throughout the BBB system sharing information with regards to bureaus getting inquiries and concerns about POST FINANCIAL COMPANY. All week the bureau system has been sharing info and several of them are getting ready to issue alerts to their regional media about this FLAT OUT SCAM...so that others can be more educated to watch out for RED FLAGS that such companies put up. POST FINANCIAL COMPANY has NEVER been a member of any BBB in the entire system. So, what you are stating here is not true. So be it. You've already gone forth, and you've already been victimized. So, what do you do next? File formal complaints with all and every consumer agency you can think of: BBB of New York, your state Attorney General's Office and New York State's Attorney General's Office, go directly to your area's US Postal Inspector and file a formal complaint with them. As well, file a police report...so that you can be implicated in this SCAM if it ever surfaces as a big case somewhere. Protect yourself first. And go to: www.worldprivacyforum.org and read all about such a scam. It's going on hot and heavy...And frankly, the BBB isn't the one that should be taking the jabs for this big SCAM. Place the responsibility where it belongs, ripoffreport.com! Because hey--despite the BBB bashing that goes on on a regular basis at this site, you still serve a useful purpose...And I wish you guys would actually think the same way about US for a change. I think we're all in the same boat here...Being openly communicative without bashing is better for the good of ALL of us. Sites such as careerbuilder.com and other job post sites need to strengthen their screening capabilities to STOP these types of jobs from being posted to begin with. Thanks for hearing me out, and hope you find some retribution somehow, MARY!! Zan Deery, Communications/Investigations, BBB Serving Eastern WA, North Idaho and Montana
