Total scam, we are still dealing from our loses. Payed a 600 dollar deposit to a company that brokered the move not one but two moving companies, the day I was to receive te items I had a call from one of the movers that I had to pay extra or he would not deliver my items and go to the police and being insulted yelled. Presidential van lines would not pick up their phones call back or answer our emails and texts, for over three weeks now. We wanted our things we payed extra only to receive items broken or damaged, total value of over 3000 dollars, and no one can be held accountable for the loss. Do not contact this company, they will turn your life into a living hell. Go to someone else, stay away.

I'm guessing you found these guys online.  Presidential is not a moving company - the Federal DOT shows they are only authorized to broker moves to other moving companies.  So the first moving company shows up and says you need to pay more - well of course you do since they weren't the ones you contracted with.  The money you paid Presidential is a broker fee for finding a mover.

So now the other mover has your stuff, but they can't deliver because they probably have no trucks to send to you.  So now another company has to deliver your goods.  Now whether you should have paid more is an interesting question because you don't have a contract with this company.  I mean I would probably pay more, but then sue for the amount you paid the 2nd mover.  The 1st mover should pay the 2nd one for the delivery or refund you for not performing the delivery - unless of course it was designed to have one company pick up at origin and another at destination, in which case, the amount you paid the 2nd mover is legit.  Also, the police do not pursue matters of a civil nature, which is what you have in a move.  They only pursue criminal matters which doesn't exist in your situation.

And Presidential?  They did exactly what a broker is supposed to do, which is to find you a mover who will take your stuff.  Once that mover arrives, their responsibility ends.  Calling them is a waste of your time.

You will ultimately need to file a claim with one of the movers - either the 1st or 2nd - not sure which at this point - for valuation reimbursement at $0.60 per pound.  Yeah, that isn't much and yes, it's all in the contract you agreed to when you moved.  Suing them for the difference between what you get and $3000 is impossible due to Federal laws on the books (Carmack Amendment to be specific) preventing consumers from suing moving companies for more than what's in the contract.

The moral of the story is this:  Moving is NOT inexpensive.  It is labor intensive, there is no automation, and no 2 moves are alike.  Finding a mover on the internet has to be the worst thing a consumer can do because all of the scam companies live on the internet.  You can certainly research moving on the internet, but you need to use the hardcopy yellow pages to find a real mover - someone local to you - companies like United, Mayflower, Allied, Atlas, Bekins, North American, and a few others will do a good job for you.  If you can't afford a move from these guys, you should seriously move yourself.  Choosing the wrong mover as you did, is far more expensive in the long run, as you are not doubt finding out, than if you had simply selected one of the legit movers.

Best of luck to you....
