We are retired, and booked a "bucket list" cruise with Princess to Hawaii, our second cruise with them (about our 6th in total).  We booked/reserved in March 2017 for cruise Jan 2018.  We had been told that we got a "discounted rate" because of early bird booking.  Don't believe this nonsense!

My believing them just cost me a minimum of $1500, and an upgrade from ocean view to balcony!  I saw, on their website as well as some discounters (remember, the discounter gets paid also, so the total back to Princess is even less than if Princess sold it themselves!), much lower costs, much higher on-board credits, which, when looking at net costs, would have easily enabled us to be given a balcony instead of ocean view, and Princess would have been net even, as would we.

When i called Princess about this, I was sent to "Sonya", a supervisor.  She told me that these were only for "new bookings"...sounds like cell phone companies, doesn't it!  She then proceeded to tell me that I did "qualify" for a different discount, which would have actually COST me 100$...the gall!  I told her that was an insult! 

Result:  NADA!  I told her I was a very, very, unhappy, previous repeat customer who would make sure that I never booked early, and maybe not even with Princess in the future...and would make sure that everyone I knew was made aware of the costs incurred by patrons booking early.  Beware!  Don't repeat my apparent mistake, and Princess's "early bird" BS.
