On 3/16/07, I was "lured" by PrivacyMatters into their website with an ad for a free credit report. I then found out they charged $1.00 for it, which was supposed to be free. They gave me an ID number but when I entered it trying to get into their website, it didn't work.

I called them on the phone and told them what happened. They told me to wait for an hour then re-enter everything. I was then assigned another ID which I used to obtain my credit report from INTELIUS. After I obtained the credit report, I decided to cancel their 7-day trial membership.

I called the 877-993-6264 number but no answer! I then called another number 1-888-840-6301 but also no answer. I tried to get into their website to cancel but somehow was steered to the SavingSmart.com website!

I was sure SavingSmart is connected with PrivacyMatters because I tried twice and both times it steered me to SavingSmart.com. I then cancelled the trial membership via email and got a cancellation confirmation number 111246284 from SavingSmart.

I was shocked to find out today (4/5/07) that I have been charged four times as follows: 3/16/07 PrivacyMatters $1.00, SavingSmart $1.00; and twice $19.95 and $29.95 on 3/23/07 by PrivacyMatters. The only thing I got from them is one credit report (which I could have obtained free anyway). Due to their dubious acts, this outfit should be exposed as widely as possible so people should be very cautious when dealing with them.

Frustrated in the Bay Area
