Be careful of Propertyroom.com. This is a police auction site that is reputable but at which you can still get ripped off. Many items that are worth less than the shipping fee are auctioned. Be especially careful in the coins and precious metals section. A gram of silver (1/31 of a troy ounce) is worth only about one dollar, but carries a shipping and handling fee of $7.95 in addition to any bid amount you  make. Property Room should stop auctioning such items.

Shipping charges are ridiculous.  I haven't bid on many items after someone bid just $1 because the common $11.95 shipping charges exceed the retail value of the item.  I recommend searching the web for any item you're interested in because you may very well find it cheaper elsewhere and sometimes, even with free shipping.

I just purchased 2 items from propertyroom.com.  I had never purchased from them before.  I investigated both items thoroughly before bidding to insure I knew what my top bid price would be.

 1) Don't buy coins or other precious metals from property room if you're looking for a deal. Precious metals are worth what they're worth. No one can offer you a discount.  If gold is selling at $1800/troy ounce, then you will not find it cheaper anywhere. Remember, 1 Troy Ounce = 31 grams.  Retailers often refer to weight in grams because it sounds like you're getting more than you actually are.

 2) Shipping charges are -bloated-.  Beware.  I almost bought a single pedometer for $1 + $11.95 shipping. $13 still seemed cheap until I found it on the Internet - 5 in a pack for $4.99 + $3  shipping.

Property room can only rip people off who don't know what they're buying.  Unfortunately, they aren't looking out for you.  That you must do for yourself.

..but that is what they charge. They clearly post theses charges in every auction. So if you think it is too high then don't bid on the item. It would only be a ripoff if you were charged this without disclosure. They clearly disclose this fee. So it is not a ripoff. It is just that you personally feel the shipping and handling fees they have decided to charge and disclose are too high. Perhaps you know what it costs them to buy or seize, list, host a website, labor to package and materials required such as tape and labels and envelopes/boxes, then physically get to the Post office or UPS or Fedex whomever they use or pickup, I am sure charges something, right?. Then confirm, insure etc so buyers do not scam them and say it never came when it did as I am sure any online seller with half a brain would want to protect themselves from so they choose to pay for this rather then get screwed?
