Publix Pharmacies, Publix Super MarketsPublix Pharmacies, Ms Roxanne Badr, Publix Super Markets Ripoff on prescriptions for Senior Citizen Winter Park Florida .....

I have been taking the prescription, Quinine Sulfate 260 Mg, for several years and usually have my prescriptions filled at Publix Pharmacy. I've always paid no more than $7.00 for 30 tablets monthly. January, 2003, the Publix charge has increased to $37.95 for 30 tablets monthly. The pharmacy employees have tried to justify this charge first, by saying my prescription insurance changed as of January 1, which it did but not to that extend.

When I pressured the employees for a better explanation, in an effort to convience me the charge is correct, the pharmacy management, Ms Roxanne Badr, said that Publix is now purchasing the medication from a different pharmaceutical company and that is why the cost has risen so much. I called Walgreen and Eckerds for price checks on all five of my prescriptions and the cost at both of those pharmarcies is much lower on all five, and only $8.99 for Quinine Sulfate 260 MG, compared to Publix's $36.95. There is no generic for Quinine Sulfate so that is not the difference.

This is from a concerned, 72 year old, Senior Citizen who needs this medication for severe leg cramps, as well as other medications for High Blood Pressure, etc., and living on Social Security. I called my Insurance company, Well Care HMO, and they obviously don't believe me but will verify what I've said about Publix's prescription charges. After two days, Ms Roxanne Badr of Publix's

Pharmacy assures me this is not a mistake on their part. BULL!! BEWARE OF ALL PUBLIX PHARMACIES! EVEN WHEN YOU HAVE PRECRIPTION INSURANCE.

This is not the pharmacist fault. If you felt the charge was unjustified why did pay for it? Quinine sulfate has become extremely hard to get for various reasons. Why are paying cash, why isn't wellcare paying for it?? This is also over the counter in a different strengths the other stores gave you the OTC price. Which is actually $3.49 at Publix. The pharmacist has no control over what you are charged and it is extremely rude to mention her full name, how would you feel? You need to call your insurance and fins why they aren't paying for it first- or if this is your copay. If it was a mistake on Publix part you have to options- apologize to the pharmacist and have her submit the claim to the insurance again or mail your receipt to the insurance company for a reimbursement. Please remember that humans work behind that counter and we do not want to overcharge you anymore than you want to be overcharged.
