I applied for a quicken loan by telephone from an advertisement found on the internet. Craig advised me that with my credit history, a loan would be no problem.

So he pre-approved me and charged $500 to my credit card for a deposit on the closing costs. Then days later he calls me and tells me I'm 'marginal' and that I would need to get documents from my son (who is not on the loan) to possibly qualify. I told him that I did not have access to my son's checking account or documents and that Quicken could not require me to provide such documents since my son was not on the loan. Craig said that if I didn't, Quicken would declare that I was being un-cooperative and keep my $500 dollars and I still would not get the loan.

I have challenged the charge on my credit card. The battle has only begun. But beware. Do not do business with Quicken Loans. They aren't honest or forthright. I was told I would not be charged if I was not approved. But they won't approve me if I don't give them my son's checking account information for the last year. That isn't kosher or legal.

I am unable to update this report, so I will post my update here. I was called by the client relations department and was told that a refund would be issued after we discussed the circumstances. So this complaint has been resolved to my satisfaction. If you have problems with Quicken, call this number for client relations: 800-863-4332

First it isn't illegal but perhaps your complaint would make more sense if you explained WHY they were asking for your son's account info. Example: If you receive a gift and would like to use that gift in the mortgage transaction then yes you WILL be asked for the gifters account info. Again people, any mortgage companies goal I repeat ANY mortgage companies goal it to close loans...that is how they make money. If they didn't NEED the info they would not ask for it. Since they asked for it, they need it for some reason if you do want to supply it then what to you expect them to do? They obvisouly can't close your loan. Loan officers do not want to waste your time or their time so they do not take the time to take your application, structure a loan for you, and gather the nessasary documents for the underwriter all for nothing.
