I locked my keys in my car at my dad's house and googled locksmiths as I didn't have a spare key. I picked the locksmith that came up first and went to their website and reviewed their pricing. $19 for the service call and $35 to unlock my car. They also advertosed 10 - 15 minute arrival time. I called and the woman who answered the phone was polite and efficient and said the locksmith would call me in a few minutes...which he did. He said he'd be there in about 25 minutes...not as fast as advertised, but not unreasonable so I waited. The locksmith got there and was sullen and not very communicative. He said it would be $145 to open the car door.
I told him the Internet said the combined price for the service call and to open the door would be $54. He said the internet was wrong. I told him I wasn't prepared to pay that much especially since I was expecting around $60 and that I didn't need his services. I asked him how much I owed him for the service call. He said $29. I said the internet said $19. He said the internet was wrong. I called the company back and they said that the price was $19. I asked if they would tell the locksmith that and they did and then he accepted the $19 price. I asked him if he'd take a Visa card and he said he only took cash (even though the internet says they take all major credit cards).
I told him I didn't have any cash and I didn't have my check book. He said he'd follow me to the ATM. I borrowed my dad's car and drove to the ATM while he followed me. I gave him the $20 and the deal was done. A waste of time and money. I'll never use them again. After I left the ATM, I drove to the Subaru dealer and they made me a spare key for $30 once I proved ownership of the car. I took my new key and opened the car door and drove away. After reading others' poor experiences with this company, I'm glad I didn't let him try to unlock the door with his glorified coat hanger!! I could have had to replace a window or a seal or repair chipped paint!!
