Reading Area Water Authority $1,000.oo for NO water for 2 years! Reading, Pennsylvania
My water has been turned off At The Curb for 24 months this November 2011; yet I have a bill owing of more than $1,000.oo. And I am told if I do not let them in to check out the meter (which may need replacement at my expense of $500.oo or more) they cannot reduce the 'estimated use'. And, even if they do reduce the estimated useage, there would be NO reduction on late fees and/or collection fees by the Accounts Recovery Bureau - whom they send the bill to each time it reaches $100.oo.
Although I attended a Board of Director's meeting this past September and was promised by the chairman that fees could be drastically reduced and my account could be taken back from the collection agency - and this was promised in front of a Reading Eagle reporter, Don Spatz - the 3 people 'panel' appointed to review my case stated "he had no right to promise anything to me in these catagories, and were I a responsible property owner I would pay my bill" Susan Days <[email protected]>; is the contact I was told would set up a 'panel' meeting for me for the review of my bills.
**Just one small problem though is that I was at Muncy SCI, thanks to another rip off company Progressive Insurance Direct (my own insurance co.) who put me in jail for my wages lost from a car accident in which I was rear-ended at 65 mph, and could not work for the next 2 1/2 years, They stopped paying for my medical treatments, denied advised treatments, and totally annihialated my life! Yet, this company covered me commercially and filled out my E-forms for insurance with the Public Utility Commission who licensed me as a para-transit driver from 2001 to 2006.** (And for this last year, I have had to remain with my aunt in order to be released on parole)
At 62 on the 26th of this month of October, I have no way of reclaiming my business and previous lifestyle. (And, just try getting a job) Welfare is giving me foodstamps and LIHeap my heating oil; PCAP is helping with my electric bills; and the City and County Tax for my home are working with me on reduced payments due to my Hardship Applications until my Social Security takes effect - SO WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE READING AREA WATER AUTHORITY?
- and HOW can I get my necessary medical bills paid from a car insurance company that EXHIBITS BAD FAITH to me, their customer, when they constantly advertise 'discounts for loyalty of their customers, and promises all kinds of rewards'? I even had FULL TORT coverage and $100,000.oo worth of medical coverage from them . . . . I have full documentation to prove what PROGRESSIVE INSURANCE CO. has done to me . . . . but I had a public defender, Christopher Price, that was incapable of presenting any defense on my behalf - even leaving a witness the court subpoenad for my defense of character, to stay out in the hallway, while her granddaughter committed purgery in her defamation of me! And this same grand-daughter, Deborah Ortlip, went against her grand-mother, Ann Hitt's wishes, had her cremated and had the audacity to leave Ann's ashes on the shelf at the Klee Funeral Home in Shillington, PA. - when Ann was a Veteran of World War II !
(and, the office of aging's****.)

I am currently in the middle of a mess with the Reading Area Water Authority myself. Please see my report previously. It will be a big help for all of us if you follow some of the same steps I have.
1. Contact your state senator. Mine was Judy Schwank and they sent a letter to RAWA on my behalf - to no avail.
2. File a complaint with the better business bureau. Mine is currently in the works but will not give any results from what I can tell, but at least it will leave a record. They responded with "We have been in contact with........" Which is technically true - last time they responded to me was the first week of October when I contacted the senator after they refused to reply to me - nothing since.
3. Contact the Berks County Bar association. Explain your story. I have a couple more people I want to contact that I know are in the middle of similiar situations. An attorney may be willing to take this pro bono for the benefit of Reading's citizens.
Remember, you are dealing with a monopoly run by a group of thugs and tyrants. They will not back down no matter how much proof you have. Do not give up! We need to do this for the citizens of the poorest city in America.
