RPM - Receivables Performance Management ripoff These people are LIARS and SCAM ARTISTS!! Bothell Washington
I received a call AT WORK from RPM saying they wanted to ask me a few questions for a survey. She said it wouldn't take long, so I agreed. She asked how long I had been at my current job, my home address, and a few other questions, I don't remember. She informed me that in appreciation of my cooperation, I would receive free subscriptions to several magazines and that they would mail the details. She also said that someone would be calling back to confirm my information.
A few minutes later, I got another call. We have caller I.D. at work and it showed up as "Receivables Per" and the number. She went over the same info with me as the last person. Said I would receive the information in the mail, blah blah blah...
About 30 minutes after that call, I receive ANOTHER call. Showed up the same name and number as the previous call. It was so and so with RPM and they were trying to collect a debt. It wasn't until after I hung up the phone, that I realized they had just scammed information from me with the previous call.
This just does not seem legal to me in any way, shape or form. Am I wrong?
I called the contact number that I was given and asked who I needed to talk to to file a complaint about how information was gathered. The man I spoke with said that it showed on record that they had only called me one time that day. Well I have it on my caller I.D. twice at 2 different times. Something is not right here. He said that he didn't know anything about a survey, that his was a debt collection agency and they didn't conduct surveys. My point exactly.
I then called back and asked the lady who answered the phone for the full company name. She said it was "RPM". I asked her what RPM stood for and she hung up on me. I then called back and (evidently they have caller I.D. too) She answered, "Yes Ma'am, what can I do for you?" I told her I would like the full business name. She replied, "Receivables Performance Management" and hung up. She was EXTREMELY rude.
If they had done nothing wrong, then why was she so reluctant to give me their full business name?

that could have answered the phone also. Kind of a sneaky way to get info. Do you have any debts that were ever charged off? They are apparently looking for you since they didn't ask for anyone else. You could always talk pics of the caller ID after each call. If it came to it, you could always subpoena the phone bills for that number but that is hopefully far off in the future if at all.

Carrie, It is illegal for any debt collector to misrepresent who they are or why they are calling. This is outright fraud. Go to FTC.gov and file a complaint online. Also keep in mind that even if you call these people with a blocked or private number they can still capture your name and phone number. This is a service they pay for just like the 911 service. You really shouldn't give anyone you don't know any information about yourself even if you did think it is a harmless survey. I have a rule I go by. I never answer the phone if full caller ID is not available, and I never speak to debt collectors or telemarketers. No exceptions. If you have a blocked or bogus caller id, you go to my generic voicemail. I control who talks to me. You need to send a CEASE COMMUNICATIONS request as per your rights under the FDCPA. Send this by certified mail, return reciept requested. be sure to put the certified# on the letter itself and kep a copy for your records. This is very important. Good luck
