On May 2, 2017, we contracted Refresh Interiors, Gene McDonald to make our counter tops for our kitchen. We gave him a check for $6500.00. Two hours later we received a call from him saying we may get a call from a check cashing place as he wanted to cash it immediately because he was excited to get supplies to get started. His bank was going to hold the check for three days. He promised us that he would be at our house the following Monday with a sample of what it would look like and to make templates for the counter tops. He did not show up so we called to find out the business number had been disconnected. We e-mailed him and texted him. Finally he did contact us and gave us a new phone number promising to be here on Thursday. He called to say he could not make it and it would be Friday. Friday he called to say it would be Saturday. Saturday he called and said he had a family emergency, his aunt had a wreck. He promised he would be here for sure on Sunday, which was Mother's Day. He and his wife showed up and took the measurements and made templates.
At that time, he said he would have a sample for us and we could come up to see the base layer of the counter tops on Tuesday, May 30. He called the day before to postpone that appointment. We agreed to let him send photos of the sample and he promised at that time to have the counter tops ready to install on that Friday. After that we did not hear from him, no photos or contact for a couple of weeks. Finally he called June 19. He said he would refund $3500 and then two small payments to finish up the refund. My husband was in Tampa and could pick it up. After that he did not return or answer calls. He finally did call with more excuses. He told my husband he would only answer e-mails or texts.
After we contacted Seniors VS Crime, he called us. He said he was selling off some of his counter slabs and would call again later that day, which he did not do. This morning he sent an e-mail and said he had broken a tooth but he would call at 11:00.
Hopefully we will get our money back but everyone should be aware this Gene McDonald, Refresh Interiors, is a scam artist.
