I can promise you this new fee was not to help the customers so they don't have to wait in line. Banks are about making money. If you are coming up to that counter, they will have a fee for something. They know most people will not cash the check. They have ATM's so you can make your deposits instead of using tellers. If people go somewhere else to cash the check, then they don't have to hire another teller. Pretty soon tellers will be obsolete with all the new technology. A teller had the nerve to tell me that I could use the ATM machine to make my deposit. I guess i was bothering her.

I had an account with another branch of this same bank, when I found out that they charged my employee's for cashing payroll checks and anyone who I wrote checks to, I closed ALL my accounts and moved my business down the road to a local bank and have had NO problums at all, and the service is better... If I write a check to someone the bank has an obligation to pay the check to the proper holder of the check. That is the deal for having my business at their bank. NO STRINGS ATTACHED! They are the ONLY bank I have heard of that does this in my area.

"I imagine what they really intend to do is to deter non-customers from cashing checks at their bank." I think you finally understand. It is also to help keep the Lobby clear so that the people WITH accounts can have service faster. And I bet that you are the kind of person who bitches when their bank charges them when they use someones elses ATM. Please Respond.

The people who issued me the check are Regions bank's customer. They pay the fees to maintain the checking account. No one is providing a service to me. They provide a service to the account holder. They are fulfilling their obligation by paying the check. It is my employers money and whether I decide to deposit the check or cash it at their lobby doesn't matter. It is just another bullshit fee to get them more money. I imagine what they really intend to do is to deter non-customers from cashing checks at their bank. Your full service gas station analogy is way off base and has nothing to do with anything. Try to think before you post. A check is an instrument used in lieu of cash. If I have a legal check and correct identification the bank should honor the check written on the account and cash it. I go to this bank and cash the check there because it is right by my house. I'm not too worried. There are never any customers at this branch. They'll fold up pretty soon. I'm not the CEO of this company but I know my services are not easily replaceable and I have a very amicable relationship with them. I am, however, the GM of another company. If I found out that my bank was charging my employees to cash paychecks, I'd be pissed. But they wouldn't because they're a legitimate bank with a positive cash flow and no reason to try to nickel and dime everybody they run across.

What will happen if the company doesn't want to pay you in cash OR want to change banks? The answer will be, you will no longer work for that company. Either as an employee or as a sub contractor. Think about it. Either way the company will get their customers taken care of by other hard working people. Please respond.

The company is providing a service to YOU. Why should they do this for free? Why do you think full-service gas stations usually charge more than self-service? You got it, SERVICE. Do you go get gas at a full-service station and then complain the price is too high because your regular self-service station is cheaper? Bank fees are outrageous, no question, but this is 100% your decision to do it this way. I am sure the company who wrote you the check is not going to change banks unless you're the CEO.
