Reliable Remodelers Not so artful scammers Portland, Oregon
I noted a previous report on these guys that the writer somewhat retracted after they gave him some money back. Wow. Does that mean they're not really scammers? No.
I used this service for almost a year, and fought with them constantly about worthless leads. If they provide you a lead, and you can't even get a response from the homeowner after multiple attempts, you still have to pay. They say "this is normal". That's marketing bull, pure and simple. If I get a lead, it means I at least get to talk to the customer. Not only do they not pre-screen the leads, they do not qualify the contractors in any way, regardless of what they may say on their website. But it gets more interesting. Read on.
I had a friend go on their website and request a remodel quote just to understand how their site works from the homeowner side. Guess what happened? He got contacted by Service Magic and Sears! The lead never made it through Reliable Remodelers to me. I would have to assume that they are all owned by the same entity, maybe Sears.
Now, in their defense, they do tell the contractors that they are going to screw them regularly on leads, i.e., no credit for most worthless leads. But they don't tell you that Service magic and Sears will get first crack. They're liars and thieves.
