I was driving my 2004 Kia Sorento with 50,000 miles from Texas to Northern California and had just pulled into Reno where I planned to spend a couple of days. My car was making a noise, so I had it towed to Reno Mazda Kia (under what I thought was the Roadside Assistance -- Trip Interruption). Anyway, two days later, I was told that the transfer case was completely shot and would need to be replaced (~$4,500 for the part, ~$200 for labor). None of this would be under the 10 year/100,000 miles warranty due to the fact that the "differing depths of the tread on the tires". After some heated discussions, I had them order the part--which they weren't going to get for about five days. I had someone pick me up and take me out of Reno so I was no longer stranded there.

About the time they told me the repairs would be done (a week since breaking down in Reno), I received a call from Reno Kia that the front differential would need to be replaced--another $1,500 in parts and labor that were not covered under warranty. Why this wasn't originally diagnosed earlier the tech was not able to answer. I agreed to the repairs, and a new date of completion was a week later.

A day before the front differential was to be completed, I received ANOTHER call from Reno Kia. This time, the driveshaft would need replacement--an estimated $700 that would, yet again, not be covered under warranty. Again, why this "problem" was not diagnosed two weeks earlier, when I originally brought it in with the problems, was not answered. That seemed extremely suspicious to me. Two weeks later, they were still "finding" problems with my car that were not covered under warranty--problems that didn't exist two weeks earlier when they originally looked at my car. I have now been without my car for two weeks and am many thousands of dollars poorer. The fact that these problems were found weeks later is, at best, suspicious. I personally believe they exaggerated problems and talked me into unnecessary parts and repairs. They are dishonest. They are a ripoff. Do not do business with them unless you enjoy unnecessarily giving your money away to a dishonest company.

I would fix the tire issue first and see what happens from there. They are right in the fact that differing diameter tires will cause problems, sometimes just fixing the tire issue fixes the whole problem. If the front tires are a different diameter then the back, the transfer case is going to try to unsuccessfully spin at differing speeds.
