Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
My wife and I went to our local Rent-a-Center store 4 months ago to purchase a new bedroom suit. We chose Rent-a-Center because we have purchased from them in the past with no problems. We picked out a "used" bedroom set and told the salesman that we wanted only a "new" mattress and boxspring. The salesman assured us that we would recieve a brand new set, then proceeded to walk us to the store room to show us the "new" set that would be delivered, we agreed and all was well.

Four months later, after many backaches and sleepless nights, I asked the Store Manager about trading to a better mattress. The manager looked up my account and told me I had a Seally mattress. At this point bells and whistles are going off because my mattress clearly states that it is a Simmons, so I ask how could this be?

I'm then told to un-zip the cover and sure enough, I have a nasty, covered with who knows what from who knows who, USED Seally mattress in a Simmons cover!

I call the manager back and demand an explanation and I'm told that "every store puts covers on their mattreses and sells them to cover up scratches and tears" Being a former department store manager, I immediately assured him "that not every store does this". I requested that he come remove the entire bedroom suit from my home and refund all money that I have paid on it thus far and was told he couldn't do that.

He only wants to replace the mattress, saying that it is not something that is or was intentionally done. I however disagree, I believe that they intentionally placed a new cover on an old mattress and knew they were being deceptive when they did it. I then ask him if Seally or Simmons mattress companies would approve of this practice and was told that "they wouldn't sell the covers if they didn't approve". I intend to find out!

I am no longer interested in doing business with a company that intentionally decieves it's own customers. It is now my opinion that this company should be investigated for practicing fraudulent schemes. I intend to report them to the Attorney Generals office, the better business bureau and the local news stations who provide consumer protection investigations.

As a store manager of a Rent-A-Center in WA I have had many calls from customers complaining that their product was not new. That the product they recieved was not the one they looked at while in the store. In regards to the mattress issue, were you home when the bedroom set was delivered? why did you not inspect the items while they were being set up in your home. If the matress problem is your only issue with the bedroom set why not exercise your option to return the mattress and re-rent a brand new set minus the amount you've already paid into the bad set. Read your contract!!! It clearly states that at any time if your not completely satisfied that you may return the product with no penalties. Your contract will also state that if at anytime you would like to re-rent the same product or SIMILIAR (i.e. NEW) product you will not lose the money you've already paid into the mattress. What not to do is call the store and start accusing them of cheating you or misleading you. Simply call and tell them you would like to return the mattress, and you will be in shortly to rent a new set if they have one in stock. I will assure you that the manager of that store will bend over backward to not lose a rental agreement. If he needs to send someone to a different location to find you a new mattress he will. Then when it's delivered, make sure it's still wrapped in plastic and only except delivery if it's the product you want.
