Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
I am purchasing a computer from Rentway in Mesa, AZ. My payment history with this company has been pretty good, but I ran into some problems recently due to a car breakdown.

I contacted the company to advise them of the situation, and was advised by manager Brad to bring in the merchandise and they would hold it for me until I could pay, this was ridiculous I only needed a 4 day extension and was willing to make two payments---so this is what I did.

Some time later, I found out they process payments by phone so I took this option and it has worked well. However on this Tuesday, I wasn't able to make a payment due to the same problem listed above that I am trying to recover from I ended up having to buy a new car and needed to make my payment on a Tuesday, so I was going to do as I did previously and make 2 payments on 8/19. Now, that won't be necessary.

There seems to be a new Manager (Lucy) who took it upon herself to charge 2 payments to my checking account without my authorization. She admitted with my bank online that I did not authorize this payment--she states she was calling me all week, my payment was due on Tues, I explained to her my schedule as she states she was in her office nightly until 8:00 pm. I advised her I get home after a 10 hour shift and 3 hours of class at 9:30 pm.

She gave no apologies for her illegal act and states I could have called her, I advised her, of the previous info given to me and she stated she was the new manager. I asked how was I to know this, I can only pay if I have the funds. She even took it upon herself to charge 2 payments instead of one. I found that even more insulting. I had made a 1 week payment the week before and advised her of this.

I immediately asked all of my info to be cancelled. She states she would do that now, but made no offer to correct her illegal error or no apology for damaging my acct. it is now overdrawn, or will be when this payment posts.

I am absolutely appalled and advised her that this is NOWHERE in my contract that they can do this without my permission, it is written on the auth that I am to call first, and authorize payment (per their rules).

I went to pick up my acct info today and not nearly all of it is there. I have 4 receipts for payments I have been making by phone since Feb of this year. I have contacted my bank which is willing to help but am wondering what other recourse I can take, as this is not only wrong but illegal. Not one apology have I received, an offer of assitance, NOTHING.

I will be giving them back their merchandise and buying a new computer cash. I don't deserve this treatment and my account has never been more than week past due on the occasion back in March when I changed jobs and went from being paid weekly to being paid biweekly. No consideration for that was given. They know I did not vanish with their merchandise, but made no attempt to advise me they would steal from my acct.

I am angry and will do whatever I can to see that this does not happen to myself or anyone else.

The contract states, no grace period. It is not Rentway's fault that your car broke down. If you do not pay your electric bill, phone bill, water bill, they shut it off. They do not care if your car breaks down, nor do they care if you have a good payment history. You stated you were never over a week late, again, read the agreement. No grace period.
