Resort Exchange International Tried to get me to pay them money in order for them to rent out my "bonus weeks" and then pay me $1900 per week rented Florida
I received a call from this company saying that I had 4 bonus weeks that I needed to use by July with RCI or Interval International. I was immediately suspicious because there is no way they would know that if they weren't working for the company I have a membership with. The fact that gave two possible exchange companies told me right there that they were a third party company that was probably a scam. The representative who called me asked if I was interested in booking the weeks and if so he'd transfer me to his supervisor. Just to see what the heck was up, I said sure, transfer me. The supervisor, Steve Walker, also told me that I had 4 bonus weeks. When I asked him how he knew that and where I could check to verify that, he told me to go to the website rci.com/weeksev. I knew immediately it wasn't the RCI page in which I do have a membership. I signed into the actual RCI page and tried to find verification that I had bonus weeks, which I did not have. Steve was condescending saying "don't you remember when you became a member?" I asked him if he knew how long I'd been a member (over 10 years). He didn't have that information. I then asked him to explain how I book these bonus weeks. Well, it turned out that they wanted to use my bonus weeks to rent them out and I would get $1900 a week. I knew that to be able to rent a week out to someone else, I would have to book the week(s) myself first. I explained this to him, and then he explained that I would simply become a member, paying them $1895 for my membership and then they would book the weeks for me and pay me $1900 per week. I remarked that there would be no need for me to pay someone else that kind of money when I could book it and rent it out myself. He said the benefit of his company was that the bookings were guaranteed and they were for events they already have scheduled. I then asked him if he owned a timeshare. He said he owned Westgate and Worldmark. I asked him how many credits he asked with Worldmark, and he said he didn't have any. I knew then that this was a scam because the only way you can own Worldmark is to buy shares (I'm a Worldmark owner/member). He tried to argue with me that that wasn't true. He clearly doesn't know how timeshares work (or at least not WM). This is a company that is clearly takin advantage of ill-informed timeshare owners. I question the legality of the company, however, they are at best an unethical company and need to be shut down.(I asked for the company license number which he didn't have, but he gave me his "timeshare license number" as TS046143.)
